Sorry, I'm the Final Boss Now novel Chapter 146

In the shadows, the two bodyguards’ minds went blank. They looked at each other and simultaneously punched their partner.

You hesitated!

And now the boss is hurt!

To be fair, both of them had seen that Ms. Lopez was never in any real danger. She was incredibly sharp. Even while comforting the other woman, her body was coiled, ready to dodge at a moment's notice. They could see that, so shouldn't the boss have seen it too?

Then again, the boss wasn't a professional.

Or maybe… maybe he was trying to play the hero.

There was no more time to think. Both men bolted from their car and sprinted toward the scene.

The thick scent of blood filled the air. Marguerite spun around and delivered a vicious kick to the scarred man's chest. He staggered back, and the blood-tipped knife fell from his hand again.

Aaron froze for a second. "Mr. Spencer!" He reached out to grab the scarred man's collar, only to see him suddenly lifted into the air.

What the—?

He looked closer and saw two burly men, each holding one of the scarred man's arms. They swung him like a pendulum and slammed him hard onto the pavement. The impact must have ruptured something inside him, because he immediately coughed up blood.

Vigilantes? Aaron didn't overthink it. "Thank you!"

Marguerite also saw that the man had been subdued by some good Samaritans and immediately turned her attention to George.

"Where are you hurt?" she asked, grabbing his arm and looking him over frantically. Not his stomach, not his chest…

"You're holding my wound," George said, his voice strained with pain.

Marguerite froze.

Marguerite didn't refuse their help. "Okay, thank you!"

Jenny resisted getting into the car. "Aaron, Aaron…"

"It's okay," Marguerite said gently. "Aaron will be fine. He's just waiting for the police."

Inside the large black SUV, the burly man driving didn't dare look at his boss in the passenger seat. He was probably going to lose his job over this. They had seen someone tailing the boss's car, but the person hadn't gotten out at the restaurant. After a while, they had let their guard down. Now, he realized the man must have gone to buy a knife. A private investigator had tailed Ms. Lopez before, and after reporting it, the boss had told them to ignore it and not to reveal their presence.

George sat in the passenger seat, expertly pressing his jacket against the wound to stanch the bleeding. In the back, Marguerite gently patted Jenny's back, her eyes involuntarily drawn to the man in front of her.

His white trousers were spattered with blood.
