He was his mother’s great hope; he would never slack off.
For Joshua, the conversation was just a minor interruption. He was tired. Leaning his head back against the seat, he switched off his phone and closed his eyes. But his thoughts drifted back to Marguerite.
According to his brother, this look-alike had a completely different personality. Marguerite was proud to her core. She would never approach a boy first, let alone develop a crush on one.
He was the only one who had ever captured her heart.

“Rest up tonight. I heard from Anna that you went to Pinecrest High to find Joshua’s brother today. You’re always calling me love-struck, but Joshua is no saint either. You need to get over him!”
Theobald had just pulled up to the villa and finally said what was on his mind.
Marguerite pouted. “Who said I still like Joshua? I don’t. I have my reasons for what I do, so stay out of it.”
Theobald fell silent. He was willing to let Marguerite meddle in his affairs, but he knew he couldn’t change her mind about anything. It was a lesson he’d learned long ago. He sighed, one hand resting on the steering wheel, and glanced into the back seat.
Marguerite wanted to tell him about Aaron, but she knew his plate was full with company matters. She didn’t want to burden him with it. Besides, she had time on her hands. She was confident she could get to the bottom of it herself.
She unbuckled her seatbelt and started to get out of the car. Just then, she saw a hand, adorned with a string of dark beads, extending several gift bags toward her from the driver’s seat.
With the agility of a cat, Marguerite spun around and hopped back in the car, her eyes lighting up. “For me?”
Theobald switched on the interior light, which cast a soft glow on the beads. “Who else? Open them, see if you like them.”
Marguerite eagerly tore open the bags. Her eyes were immediately dazzled by a sea of glittering gold. There were two exquisite diamond rings that sparkled brilliantly, and three gold pieces: a simple, solid bangle; a puppy-shaped pendant; and a hefty gold ingot stamped with a bull.
A grin stretched across Marguerite’s face. “I love them! Thank you, Northpine Wraith! This is exactly my style. Did you pick these out yourself?”
Theobald wanted to take the credit, but Anna was sitting right behind him. Her car had broken down today, so he was giving her a ride home.
Both Theobald and Anna burst out laughing.
“Alright, I’ll accept it,” Anna said, her fingers tracing the smooth surface of the bangle. “Thank you, Maggie. And thank you, Mr. Scott.”
Maggie is too good to me, she thought. How can I ever repay her?
She resolved to work even harder and help Starlight Group reach new heights.
After getting out of the car with her gifts, Marguerite texted George to open the gate. He appeared moments later. The handsome man was dressed in his signature white shirt, but today he wore a black tie that made him look impossibly sexy and restrained. His broad shoulders tapered to a narrow waist.
Theobald and Anna got out to say hello. George offered a gentle smile before following Marguerite inside.
Anna frowned, muttering to herself, “Doesn’t a huge villa like this have any live-in staff? Why is Mr. Spencer opening the gate himself?”
