“The light’s green!”
Marguerite noticed George staring at his phone, oblivious to the change in the traffic light, and prompted him.
George’s knuckles were white as he clutched his phone. He looked up, his expression once again calm and gentle. “Right.”
He pressed the accelerator, and the car moved forward smoothly.
Does Stella know Joshua is coming today?
Probably not. If she did, she wouldn't have let me come with her.
The proud girl she is, she probably never mentioned Joshua to Joseph. She wants Joshua to come looking for her.
So, if she runs into Joshua at Pinecrest, will she even give him a second glance?
Of course she will.
She likes him so much she even lowered herself to get close to his brother!
George felt a tightness in his chest. He reached up to loosen his collar, only to find he wasn't wearing a collared shirt today.
“What’s wrong?”
At such close quarters, even the oblivious Marguerite could sense the shift in George’s mood. It was as if something was making him deeply uneasy. It had happened right after he looked at his phone.
The girl’s pleasant voice brought George back to his senses. He took a subtle, deep breath. Keeping his eyes on the road, he said calmly, “It’s nothing. Just a small issue with a company contract.”
The car soon arrived at the entrance of Pinecrest High. Unfamiliar vehicles were not allowed on campus. A security guard approached them. “Hello… oh, Mr. Spencer! It’s been a long time! I’ll open the gate right away!”
Everyone at Pinecrest High knew George. He had graduated with top honors, built a massive business empire, and donated a new building to the school every year. No other alumnus had ever given back on such a scale.
George nodded pleasantly. “Mr. Frank, good to see you.”
The powerful billionaire tycoon still addressed him respectfully as Mr. Frank. The guard’s heart warmed. People like him deserve to be rich, he thought. He had been a security guard at the school for twenty years, ever since George was a student. Principals had come and gone, but he remained at his post.
Just then, he noticed a beautiful young girl in the passenger seat. The guard’s eyes widened slightly. This was the first time he had ever seen George bring a girl back to their alma mater.
“Mr. Spencer, is this your girlfriend?” Mr. Frank asked, unable to contain his curiosity.
The girl in the passenger seat shook her head. “No, we’re not, Mr. Frank.”
