Joshua scoffed. “Powerful CEO? In front of the Green family, he’s nothing.” He had just been too lazy to take over the family business; it was too much work.
“Still, maybe it’s not a good idea,” Hannah said. “If you call him, he’ll just deny that he’s been bothering me. He can’t do anything to you, but he has plenty of ways to make things difficult for a small-time actress like me.”
The implication was clear: a phone call wouldn't be enough. To solve the problem at its root, they would have to target Starlight Group itself.
Joshua put an arm around her. “Small-time actress? You’re my woman, not some small-time actress. Give me his number. I know what I’m doing.”
A gleam of triumph flashed in Hannah’s eyes. Joshua was standing up for her. Theobald was finished.
With a show of reluctance, she gave him Theobald’s number.
Joshua lit a cigarette. “I’m going to call and teach him a lesson. You go take a shower.”
Hannah was dying to hear what Joshua would say, but she knew she’d have to feign innocence and protest, which would be annoying. “Okay. Don’t be too harsh. I’m going upstairs.”
Once Hannah was gone, Joshua stepped outside to make the call. The moment it connected, he demanded, “Theobald, where’s your sister?”
The road from George’s villa back to the city was a quiet mountain pass. The car was silent, no music playing yet. The unfamiliar voice, sharp and demanding, was jarring.
Theobald’s brow furrowed, his tone icy. “Who is this?”
Joshua was incredulous that Theobald didn’t recognize his voice; he was a household name. “It’s Joshua. Where’s your sister? Put her on the phone.”
Joshua was stunned by Theobald’s response. He took a drag from his cigarette and cursed, “You’ve been a CEO for a few years and think you can threaten people? I won’t stoop to your level. I’ll ask you one more time: where is your sister?”
The car’s headlights cut through the darkness of the mountain road. Theobald slowed down, his voice like ice. “That’s none of your business.”
He was about to hang up again when Joshua’s angry voice cut through. “Is your sister with George?”
Theobald’s hand rested on the steering wheel, his fingers tapping lightly. The prayer beads were almost invisible in the darkness. Joshua probably wouldn't dare to confront Mr. Spencer.
A cold glint in his eyes, Theobald replied, “Yes. They’re already living together.”
