Spoiled By My Nine Beast Husbands (Emma Tibarn) novel Chapter 156

**When She Opened the Door to the Life She Was Afraid to Live**
**by Nora Vale Kingsley**
**Chapter 156: Shadows of Obsession**

As the last of the guests departed, Corvin swiftly turned his attention to the crystals, using their shimmering power to compensate for the owner’s losses. He then quickly ushered Emma and Marcus away from the scene, eager to distance them from the chaos that had just unfolded.

Walking alongside Marcus, Emma cast a sideways glance at him, her voice softening as she spoke. “Marcus, if something like this ever happens again, please, don’t act impulsively. If you feel the urge to intervene, just remember to be cautious—never strike someone in a way that could be fatal.”

Marcus, weary and leaning against her for support, nodded slowly, his expression a mix of shame and resolve. “I’ll remember,” he murmured, his voice barely above a whisper.

In that moment, Emma’s heart ached for him. She often marveled at how obedient he could be, especially when he was in such a vulnerable state. It was a stark contrast to the fierce spirit she knew he possessed. Seeing him like this, she couldn’t bring herself to scold him further. Instead, she chose to lighten the mood. “How about we go buy a few things? Since we’re already out, we shouldn’t return empty-handed,” she suggested, a warm smile breaking through the tension.

The earlier incident began to fade from her mind, replaced by the anticipation of a small adventure.

Upon entering the store, Merlin removed his mask, revealing a face that could enchant anyone—yet now, it was marred by a deep sense of disgust. He glared at his reflection, the features that once held charm now twisted by a dangerous allure. His dark pupils glinted with a lethal intent, a storm brewing behind them.

“Find out who that female is. How many matches does she possess?” he demanded, his voice low and menacing.

Finally, he had encountered a woman who intrigued him, and he was determined not to let her slip from his grasp.

From the shadows, a subordinate stepped forward, responding promptly, “Yes, Mr. Merlin.”

“And what about the therian scouts stationed at the outer battlefield? Have they reported back yet? How is my brother faring? Has he truly become addicted to scavenging, vowing never to return?”

The subordinate hesitated, his voice barely a whisper as he replied. “This morning, the scouts reported that there’s still no sign of Mr. Malrik.

“Moreover, I’ve heard that our therians searched for him, but others from the clan have also joined the hunt. Apparently, someone sent word that Mr. Malrik has already been matched by the Beastmate System. He has a huntress—and she is actively searching for him.”

“What?”

Merlin’s aura shifted violently, a palpable rage emanating from him as the power of a Rank 9 surged forth like a beast poised to attack.

He seized the subordinate by the throat, his eyes ablaze with murderous hatred, a bloodthirsty glint shining through. “Malrik… that useless man… He actually has a huntress?”

Why?

With a furious motion, he hurled the subordinate to the ground, shattering everything within the room into splinters.

“That worthless coward is inferior in every conceivable way! And just because he was born a minute before me… because we share the same blood… I am condemned to live in his shadow, forever cloaked in darkness.

“He possesses everything, and yet the Beast God favors him? Bestowing upon him a huntress first? Why?!”
