**When She Opened the Door to the Life She Was Afraid to Live by Nora Vale Kingsley**
**Chapter 231: He Is Talking Nonsense**
Emma had made a playful request to Corvin earlier, suggesting that when he wrapped up his tasks and returned home, he should bring her a few cool mechs and warships. The idea of redecorating her space with such thrilling items filled her with a sense of excitement.
Corvin’s response came swiftly, his curiosity evident. “Why are you so keen on changing my room? Don’t you like how it is right now? Silas mentioned you adored it!” His tone was light, teasing even, but Emma felt a flicker of annoyance at the mention of Silas.
Suppressing her irritation, Emma bit her lip, suppressing the urge to take out her frustration on Silas. “Silas is talking nonsense. None of you should listen to him anymore!” she declared, her voice firm. The thought of Silas’s perverse ideas corrupting Corvin and Marcus made her stomach churn.
Emma’s head throbbed with frustration as she flicked off her lightcore, the room plunging into a soft darkness. She took a hasty shower, the water washing away her irritation, and then made her way to the training room to absorb the beast cores. The rhythmic thud of her heart echoed in her ears as she focused on her task, hoping to clear her mind.
Upon her return from the training room, Emma was greeted by an unexpected sight. Marcus had apparently decided to make himself comfortable on the floor beside her bed, sprawled out in a relaxed manner. Nearby, Cotton Candy, her mischievous little rabbit, was tied up, its limbs restrained in a rather undignified manner.
“Marcus, what on earth are you doing lying on my floor? And why is Cotton Candy tied up like that?” Emma questioned, her brow furrowing in confusion. The sight of Marcus lounging there, half his chest exposed, made her wonder who he thought he was trying to seduce.
Looking up at her, Marcus flashed a grin. “Lucien said that while they’re away, you shouldn’t be left alone. If there’s no one else to guard you, it’s my duty to stay by your side,” he explained, his tone slightly defensive. Edric was busy training downstairs, leaving Marcus to fulfill the role of her protector.
A hint of resentment crept into Marcus’s voice as he continued, “I came to guard you, but you won’t let me on your bed, so here I am, stuck on the floor.” His pout was almost comical, yet Emma felt a twinge of guilt at his plight.
Emma rubbed her nose thoughtfully, her heart softening at his words. “Fine, in the future, when it’s just us in the room, you can sleep on my bed,” she conceded, her voice gentle.
At her words, Marcus sprang up from the floor with surprising speed, stripping off his clothes in one fluid motion before sliding onto her bed. He was incredibly quick; by the time Emma registered what he was doing, he was down to just his briefs.
Emma’s mouth fell open in shock. “Wait! Why are you taking off your clothes to get on the bed?” she exclaimed, rushing over to grab his wrist, preventing him from removing anything further. “And why so much?”
With a serious expression, Marcus replied, “My clothes are dirty. I can’t risk getting your bed dirty.” He was aware of how particular Emma was about cleanliness; her bed was always immaculate, the sheets perfectly arranged without a wrinkle in sight.
