The clash of steel against Damon’s blood-forged claws sent sparks spraying. Her movements carried the signature discipline of someone who had trained in structured forms, every strike linked to the next with elegant precision, with perfect martial flow.

But unfortunately for her, Damon hadn’t died a bunch of times in the last few hours and lost half his power like her. Damon was able to easily overpower her with just sheer raw strength. His claws tore through her back, and in a single blow, he yanked out her blood essence, his poison paralyzing her completely.

There should have been a lot of people in Lotera when shit had hit the fan. The NPCs should be permanently gone at this point. NPCs typically do not respawn unless they were part of some special quest.

But there should definitely be a lot more players than this meagre handful he had managed to loot from. Where were the rest of them? Even if Aiden only wanted to do this whole thing with very less eyes on him, there still should be some more?

That thought nagged at Damon as he blinked onto another rooftop, the wyrm’s abyssal flames reducing the street below to a molten river. His crimson eyes narrowed, scanning the ruined marketplace through the smoke and ichor-soaked fog.

He’d cut down at least a dozen already, bled them for essence, stolen their skills, but this was Lotera, a city that had once been packed shoulder-to-shoulder with players. Even after the Abyss had devoured it, even after the Gate had opened, there should have been more.

And yet... there was nothing. Just scattered rats hiding in corners. What was he missing?

Damon’s jaw clenched as he blinked away from another wave of black fire, his mind racing even while his claws dug into the wyrm’s neck again. He sent in another boatload of poison into the damned beast and then disappeared.
