Damon was curious what he was going to say but seeing that the old man did not want to talk about it, he let it go.
The two continued talking for some more time, after which Damon excused himself and thanked the old man for sharing everything with him. He personally wanted to know more about Artimius himself.
Who was this old man? How was he related to these nine families? How did he know about all of this?
Damon wanted to ask him, but he also did not want to pry too much into his personal business. After all, Artimius did not ask too much either. He merely shared with him what he needed to know.
Ancient calamities waiting to slaughter him!
Damon chuckled.
While that was a future problem, there was yet another, more pressing problem right now.
The one other thing Damon learned from the old man was that all of these nine families and most of their members possessed powerful soul arts and inner energy battle techniques.
Without mana, these two helped them grow stronger and groom potential, skilled younger generation seedlings. In fact, it was these two techniques that made them unparalleled on Earth.
And right now, Damon severely lacked in both of them.
This meant that even without the ancient calamities awakening, he was already in danger. If La Rocha’s abilities were not top-notch, they would have already slaughtered him. They did not have to wait for some old monster to awaken.
With several thoughts in his mind, Damon stepped out of the chamber and leaned on the wall outside. Sylvara followed him out and watched him silently. She did not know what to tell him.
She herself had learned about many things for the first time today and was in utter shock. She could only imagine how Damon must be feeling.
Sylvara lingered beside him, fingers twisting in the fabric of her sleeve, a habit she had picked up only when she was overwhelmed. She opened her mouth once, twice, but nothing came out.
Damon let out a slow breath, the weight of everything pressing on his shoulders like a boulder. "You can say something, you know," he murmured.
Sylvara swallowed. "I... don’t know what to say. Damon, everything he told you... it’s... It’s terrifying."
Damon chuckled softly, though it didn’t quite reach his eyes. "Welcome to my life. Chaos seems to like me a lot."
Sylvara smiled a little. It faded almost immediately. "But Damon... this is too much. These families... these ancient things... they’ll come for you?"
"Apparently," Damon said with a shrug, as if he weren’t talking about immortal nightmares hunting him through time. "Guess I’m very popular."
Sylvara did not say anything. She simply leaned on the wall next to him and stayed by him silently.
