Chapter39
She took a moment before calmly saying, “What you said, isn’t it you who said I can date? As long as that person isn’t you, anyone is fine.”
“And he’s great, not some ‘messy‘ person you think. I’ll be with him and when the time is right, I’ll bring him back to meet you guys.”
Paulette spoke slowly, surprisingly calm in her heart, no resentment, no
regrets.
She thought, she had really let go of Nelson.
So…
“Nelson, goodbye.”
With that, Paulette hung up the phone.
Nelson was still caught up in her words, and when she snapped out of it, there was no sound on the other end of the line.
His neck meridian twitched twice, making him instantly annoyed, almost smashing the phone out, “Damn girl! Addicted to hanging up on me?”
Nelson threw it on the passenger seat and stepped on the gas, ready to go back and give Paulette a good talking to.
I got back to Emberglade Villa around ten o’clock, the whole house was pitch black, couldn’t see any light.
Nelson parked the car in the yard and walked in with big steps.
As soon as the light in the hallway turned on, he felt that something was

Paulette always stayed up late, why did she go to bed so early today?
His eyes darkened, he went in and turned on all the lights in the living room, but the next moment he froze in place.
Emberglade Villa was a house that Nelson bought a long time ago, with a neutral decoration style, black, white, and grey minimalist style. It was not until Paulette moved in that she started to gradually transform it into a cozy home.
But the living room in front of me seems to have gone back to many years
ago.
The fluffy stuffed animal on the sofa was gone, only the cold gray cover left.
The small ornaments on the table also disappeared without a trace.
Even the green plants by the French window were gone.
This house was empty and it made me feel anxious.
Nelson didn’t know how long he had been standing there. He closed his eyes heavily, the headlight shining on him, casting a lonely dark shadow below.
Suddenly, he looked up at the upstairs.
“Paulette!”
The empty house seemed to still have echoes.
Nelson took a few steps upstairs, Paulette’s room door wasn’t closed at all. He pushed it open and it was pitch black and empty like a big hole,
swallowing everything up.

His eyes turned red, and he turned on the light.
No…
He’s not here.
The clothes in the wardrobe disappeared out of nowhere.
“Paulette! Don’t play this boring game with me, get out!”

Nelson searched through every room in the house, but still couldn’t find
any
trace of Paulette. She was like a gust of wind, a dream, with no signs of the years they had spent together, as if she had never been there.
