Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 34

Jordan Smith couldn’t stand seeing her so upset. He immediately pulled a handkerchief from his pocket and handed it to her.

In a gentle voice, he tried to comfort her. “Sandra, why are you apologizing to her? The system glitch was her fault. You’ve only been in this position a few days—how could anyone blame you?

Don’t beat yourself up over the lost client. You’ve been doing great these past few days. Wipe those tears away; let me take you out for some dinner.

Afterwards, we’ll head back to Harrisburg. I’ll make sure Camila Davis is held accountable for this.”

“Are you sure that’s okay?” Sandra Taylor asked, her voice soft and uncertain, though inside she felt a flicker of satisfaction. On the outside, she kept up her caring, understanding persona.

She added with a gentle sigh, “Jordan, please don’t be too hard on Camila. I came back at a bad time. If she’d had a little more time to adjust, maybe she wouldn’t have struggled so much. None of this would’ve happened if it weren’t for me…”

“I told you, this isn’t your fault. Don’t blame yourself,” Jordan reassured her, patient as ever.

When Sandra finished wiping her tears, Jordan stood up and pulled her chair out for her, ever the gentleman. “What do you want to eat? Name anything—I’ll take you there.”

Sandra looked up at him, her mood brightening. “Anything’s fine. I’m not picky. As long as I’m with you, I’ll eat whatever.”

Jordan chuckled. “Alright, I’ll have Bryan make a reservation and book our flights.”

Sandra nodded, walking out of the coffee shop by his side.

Jordan was busy on the phone, so he missed the sly glimmer in her eyes.

He didn’t know that this whole client fiasco had very little to do with Camila Davis.

Truth was, after Camila finished handing over all her work, Sandra quickly realized that the development team wasn’t nearly as bad as she’d imagined.

The medical system Camila’s team had built was just as good—if not better—than most top-notch companies overseas.

In fact, in some areas, it was leaps ahead.

Whenever Sandra slipped up, she’d get compared to Camila, again and again.

It was enough to make Sandra grind her teeth in frustration.

She couldn’t let Jordan find out about any of this.

Before things got out of hand, she had to pin the blame on Camila Davis.

No way was she going to let Jordan see just how important Camila really was.

That evening, Camila Davis and Lillian finished dinner and spread out a massive jigsaw puzzle on the living room rug.

Camila had just bought it—a sprawling, beautiful landscape with thousands of tiny pieces.
