He huff’s out another sigh, the sound hissing through his teeth. “Beta Dorian. You think he orchestrated the whole thing?”

“I don’t know. I just know that during our interviews yesterday, things weren’t adding up. Something is off about the attack and Alpha Colin’s death. Whatever it is, I intend to figure it out.”

“Let me know what you need from me,” he says.

“Thank you. Keep your ears open. Shane and I are going to go to the hospital today. I want to see the medical records that they have on Alpha Colin.”

“What are you going to do with Dorian?”

“For now, he stays right where he is. I need more information before I let him out of the cells. If his brother so much as breathes in the wrong direction, you have my permission to throw him in as well. I will not allow Shane and Enya to be put at risk. I’d rather be wrong and ask forgiveness, than be right and not do anything.”

“I’ll let you know if I hear anything.”

“Thank you,” I say, heading inside to get some breakfast before starting what promises to be another long day.

Enya

I watched Violet and her ridiculous attempt to get Christian to touch her.

“Alpha, are you okay?” Jesse, the warrior Christian put me with, asks.

She’s definitely not as strong as I am, which means either Christian underestimated my abilities or I gave a very poor showing yesterday.

“What is Violet doing?” I murmur.

Jesse turns and watches her fake her inability to fight. “What Violet does best. Draw men to her bed.”

Jesse is single, but Eliza is mated. I can see that she’s pissed with how Violet is acting. Violet may not be the strongest warrior we have, but she’s better than this. It makes me angry, not only because I feel the flood of jealousy that she’s trying to get into Christian’s bed, but also because her lack of skill reflects poorly on my father and how he taught his warriors.

I look at Jesse. “You don’t act like that.”

“I have self–respect. Violet is willing to make herself look weak to get into someone’s bed. Especially if that bed is filled with a tall, dark, and handsome Alpha. I mean, I’m not saying I’d say no to the man, but I’m not going to act like I can’t fight just to try and get myself there.”

I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, that others in the pack are attracted to Christian. Even I’ve told him he’s perfect.

What I didn’t expect was for Christian to put her in her place without accepting anything that she’s obviously offering. He has somehow managed to discipline her by making it about her lack of skill.

“Well, would you look at that. I guess our Alpha has some self–respect too. Good for him,” Jesse says.
