Chapter 49
Without really understanding why, I find myself inside the building and in front of the current leaderboard, staring at Dane’s name. In order for me to give it my all this semester, I have to go up against my hero, my brother. I’m still not sure I’m ready for that.
“Whose ghost are you chasing?” Alpha Tyler asks, walking up so silently that I didn’t even hear him.
I smile. “You’ve been talking to Sebastian.”
“More like he was talking to me,” he says, shrugging.
“Number two, that’s my brother.”
I turn and look at him. I already know the answer, but I wonder if he’ll open up to me.
“Whose ghost are you chasing?”
“Number four. That’s MY brother.”
“At least yours really is a ghost,” I say, then flinch. “Sorry, that was insensitive.”
“No, it was the truth. But I don’t think that makes it any easier for me than it is for you. But as Alpha Sebastian told me, your brother’s shoes aren’t yours to fill. You shouldn’t try. Walk in your own shoes and be who you are, Alpha Christina.”
“You think it’s that easy?”
“Oh hell no. But I think I’m uniquely qualified to understand the

feeling of wanting to fill another’s shoes and knowing I can’t. I’m still trying to come to terms with the fact that mine will have to be enough for my pack.” he says, staring up at the leaderboard, then turning to
“Do you know who number one is?”
I look up and see the name, Alpha Ryan, but don’t recognize where he’s from. It was before I started working here.
“No. I just know he’s the Alpha that bumped my brother out of the number one spot four years ago.”
“That’s Alpha Sebastian’s son. If there is anyone who could help you achieve your potential and put your ghosts to rest, it’s him.”
“Maybe that’s why he’s taken such an interest in me this semester. He seems to see something in me that I don’t see in myself.”
Tyler turns to look at me fully. “You really don’t see it?”
I raise an eyebrow. “You do?”
“From the moment I saw you. I didn’t know you were Alpha Dane’s sister either. I just saw it in you right away.
I blow out a breath. Everyone seems to see something in me that I don’t see in myself.
“Well, I guess I’ll find out just how much I’m not seeing this semester.
