The Ashes of Vows (Elara and Damon) novel Chapter 14

14

Sloane flinched, seeing Damon’s eyes blaze with murderous intent.DDamon, I

It’s not like that. Elara framed me. That video

But the next second, a figure lunged at her, hands clamping around her neck.

Sloane, say that again. Where was she? Where are you hiding her?!

He screamed, completely unhinged.

Sloane choked, her face turning purple. She thrashed, her fists hammering at Damon’s hands.Let go!

Let go!

The lawyer and bodyguards nearby rushed forward, trying to pull Damon off.

Mr. Blackwood, you’re a man of the law! Let go, or you’ll face serious charges!

Finally, the men managed to subdue the raging Damon.

Sloane’s face was beet red, tears streaming down her cheeks. She coughed and gasped, a pathetic mess.Damon, you’re doing this for that dead bitch, Elara-

She’s not dead!

Damon’s face was ashen, drained of all color.

A month later, in a secluded villa forty kilometers from Veridia General Hospital.

The private nurse was carefully sticking the needle into my frail vein. My skin was so pale, it made the old bruises from all the IVs look even more jarring.

But the moment the needle went in, maybe it was the jolt of pain, my slender fingertip actually twitched.

A surge of excitement hit the young nurse. She quickly stood up and dashed out of the room, calling out, Mr. Hart, are you still here? She moved! Her finger just moved!

The man, who’d been making coffee, froze. His long legs covered the distance to the master bedroom in just a few quick strides.

By this point, my eyes were already open. Seeing this, the man quietly told the nurse behind him, You can go now. Have the house staff make some light porridge suitable for a patient.

Then, the bedroom door gently clicked shut.

I’d been out for so long, and I was just barely conscious now. Even though my eyes were open, everything was a thick blur, like a dense fog had settled over my vision.

Through my blurry vision, a tall shadow moved beside me. I flinched, my voice a raspy whisper:Whowho are you?

I

Where am I?”

My last memory was hitting record on the hidden camera button during my final confrontation with Sloane.

I knew how arrogant and unhinged Sloane was, but I never expected her to actually go for the kill, choking me out.

My original plan was to jump into the sea myself, making it look like Sloane was responsible. But that day, I almost genuinely died at that spoiled brat’s hands.

I was already severely oxygendeprived when I plunged into the ocean. The feeling of drowning and neardeath sent searing pain through my entire body. The moment I lost consciousness, even I didn’t think I’d make it out alive

II actually

Didn’t die?

I stared at the blurry emptiness, a weak, wry smile twisting my lips.

Yeah, you didn’t die. But you were pretty much on death’s doorstep, circling the drain a few times.

The man replied softly, his gentle voice oddly calming.

Miss Sterling, how are you feeling now?

Anything feel off? Uncomfortable?

I blinked blankly.My eyes, I guess

Everything’s blurry.

Soon, I vaguely felt the shadow of a hand wave twice in front of me.You can’t see?he asked.

Or my face? Can’t see that either?

I shook my head. So, who are you, really?

The man was silent for a moment, then let out a soft, helpless chuckle.

Let’s get acquainted,he said.I’m Julian Hart.

Miss Sterling, the company you hired for that fakedeath and rescue service? I own it.
