Andrea didn’t manage to get any advantage staying with Chloe, so for now, her only option was to move out.
Vivian showed up looking for Andrea, and happened to catch her in the middle of moving her stuff.
Vivian frowned in confusion. “Andrea, you just moved in, and now you’re leaving again? What’s up with that?”
Andrea’s eyes grew red with frustration. “Mrs. Hamilton just can’t stand me–she keeps making things tough. for no reason. Ian worried I’d get the short end of the stick, so he said I should move back for the time being.”
Vivian tried to reassure her. “Andrea, you’ve already given Mr. Hamilton a son. What’s there to be afraid of? If things get messy, just make a scene. Mr. Hamilton’s heart is with you–what’s the worst that could happen?”
Andrea just dropped her gaze, feeling all kinds of guilty inside.
‘My son isn’t even Ian’s real kid—what am I supposed to kick up a fuss about?‘ Andrea thought bitterly.
‘I’ve been back for ages, and there hasn’t been the slightest thing between me and Ian. It’s not like there’s anything going on at all,‘ Andrea grumbled to herself.
‘If Ian had ever let me get close, I’d be Mrs. Hamilton already–no way I’d be stuck swallowing all this crap,’ she thought, full of frustration.
Andrea took Vivian’s hand, looking helpless. “Vivian, the Hamilton family is at the very top here in Kingsford. The gap between Ian and me is just too big. Honestly, it’s not surprising their elders don’t approve of me.”
Andrea continued, “I’m not hung up on titles or anything like that. As long as Ian loves me, that’s enough. I just want to prove myself, to accomplish something so I can truly be worthy of him.”
Andrea said, a little hesitant, “Vivian, you come from such an elite background. Just having you as a friend is already a blessing for me. People always say the more friends you have, the more paths in life you find. You know so many important people–going forward, I hope you’ll help me see more of the world and make connections. I just hope you won’t mind having me around.”
Vivian patted her own chest, assuring her, “Andrea, don’t worry. From now on, my social circle is your social circle. I’ll make sure you meet all my friends.”
Andrea smiled, clearly pleased.
That evening, when lan got home, he found Chloe curled up on the couch, scrolling through her phone.
Jan set a file folder down on the coffee table and asked, “Are you feeling any better?”
Chloe barely looked up at him, her gaze indifferent. “Do you even hear yourself right now? Isn’t that kind of ridiculous?”
Ian loosened his suit jacket and turned to sit down beside Chloe,

He met her eyes. “You were the one who set me up first.”
Chloe forced a small smile and silently averted her gaze.

Seeing she didn’t respond, Ian handed her the file folder. “Go ahead, take a look.”
When Chloe still ignored him, Ian reached over and grabbed her phone.
Chloe took the folder, opened it, and flipped through a few pages–everything inside was about Ian’s private
assets.
She closed the folder, put it back in the envelope, and handed it right back to Ian.
lan set the file on the table and, almost instinctively, reached out to take Chloe’s hand. “This is everything I own. I’ve already prepared the paperwork–just sign it and it’ll all be under your name.”
Chloe had no idea what kind of game Ian was playing now.
But she wanted nothing to do with that money.
Even if she accepted it, she knew she’d never be able to hold onto it.
All she wanted was to make a clean break from Ian–no more money, no more tangled strings between them.
Chloe stared him down. “Ian, I’m no stranger to the way you do things. Even if I sign, and all this ends up under my name–if you ever want it back, you’ll have a million ways to make it happen.”
“If you have something to say, just spit it out. Stop beating around the bush.”
Ian kept his gaze fixed on her. “I gave you my word–I won’t ever threaten you again. And I mean it.”
Chloe brushed Ian’s hand aside and stood up. “I’ve got work in the morning. I’m heading to bed.”
She made a move to leave, but Ian stepped in front of her, his expression stormy, blocking her path.
“Chloe,” Ian said quietly, “besides arguing and work, can’t we just have a real conversation for once?”
Chloe shot him a look, not missing a beat. “Talk about what, Ian? We skip the drama and the job talk–what’s even left? Feelings? Do you actually have any?”
They stared each other down, and lan’s eyes grew dark and unreadable.
He kept himself in check and switched gears. “Next week, let’s make some time to go back to The Old Hamilton Manor for dinner.”
Chloe pulled her hand away. “I’ve got a team of overseas experts visiting the hospital next week–I won’t have time,”
She said it, then walked off to her bedroom without another glance.
Onscreen, Chloe, in a white lab coat and light makeup, was showing the delegation of specialists around the hospital.
Miranda couldn’t help but praise her. “Chloe’s been bright since she was a kid. She can accomplish anything she puts her mind to.”
Ian watched his family shower Chloe with praise, and honestly, his feelings were all over the place.
The carefree little girl who used to beg him to support her for life… she’d really grown up.

She wasn’t just pulling tricks behind his back anymore.
Now she was outright dazzling in her own field, shining in a way nobody could ignore.

Seeing Chloe on screen–so bright, so confident, practically stealing the spotlight–Ian couldn’t help the rush of emotions that flickered in his deep eyes.
After work, Chloe walked out with her colleagues through the staff entrance and spotted Ian waiting just outside.
As she overheard her coworkers‘ envious murmurs, Chloe tugged lan aside and asked, “Why did you come here?”
Ian smirked, “I’m your husband. Isn’t it normal for me to pick up my own wife after work?”
Chloe gave Ian a puzzled frown.
All these years, and this was the first time she’d ever actually heard him call her “wife.”
‘What kind of stunt is he pulling now?‘ Chloe thought, not buying it for a second.
‘Did Andrea cheat on him or something?‘ she wondered, a bit suspicious.
Hearing the tip from her coworkers, Chloe turned to Ian and sighed, “I’ve gotta put in some extra hours tonight. I’m heading out for a house call with Dr. James–don’t wait up for me, just go on home.”
Ian reached over and grabbed her hand. “No way, I’ll drive you.”
Honestly, for Eric to sign off on sending two attending physicians out together, whoever they’re visiting has to be in seriously bad shape–and probably packs some serious influence, too.
