The Billion-Dollar Divorce (Ian and Chloe) novel Chapter 167

pter 167

Chloe was taken aback by Philip’s decision.

She looked at Philip in stunned silence.

Philip explained awkwardly, “Dr. Irvine, you’re the only person Simon has ever wanted to get close to in the past three years. When you were gone these past few days, he actually spoke to me for the first time ever and asked me to take him to see you. I just thought-”

Before Philip could finish, Chloe cut him off with a generous smile. “Mr. Foster, you don’t need to explain. You’re a great father, and I understand. As long as I can help Simon get better, being his godmother is no problem at all.”

Noticing beads of sweat on Chloe’s forehead, Philip took the initiative to relieve her of Simon. “I never expected you to be so generous, Dr. Irvine. Let me thank you on Simon’s behalf.”

Chloe didn’t turn him down.

‘No wonder he’s a top lawyer–he’s such a smooth talker,‘ Chloe thought to herself.

As they were about to head into the outpatient building, Chloe heard Ian call out her name.

She paused and turned back. Ian handed her the bag full of meds, saying, “I tried calling you, but you didn’t answer, so I just brought it over.”

Chloe took it from him.

Philip called out to Ian, “Mr. Hamilton, are you and Dr. Irvine…?”

Ian

gave

Chloe a meaningful look before replying, “We’re married.”

Philip looked puzzled. “So who was that woman in the hospital room the other day?”

Ian said, “Sorry, Mr. Foster. The kid who hurt your son isn’t mine–I just happen to know his mother from way back. I didn’t clear things up in the hospital because I hoped we could sort things out quickly. Sorry for the confusion.”

Philip nodded, getting the picture. “No worries, Mr. Hamilton. As long as Dr. Irvine isn’t bothered, it’s all good.”

Just as Ian was about to step closer to Chloe, she turned away and said to Philip, “Let’s go, Mr. Foster,” pointedly distancing herself from Jan.

Whether she misunderstood or not was insignificant to lan.

The only reason he bothered to explain now was because things weren’t going his way anymore.

He just wanted to temporarily smooth things over, hoping she’d keep the peace and not blow things out of proportion.

Chapter 167

Ian’s foot, halfway lifted, slowly lowered again.

He listened as Chloe candidly introduced Andrea to Philip, saying she was lan’s first love.

She described Andrea and Ian as a pair of doomed sweethearts, forced apart by their elders.

She added that she and Ian were currently discussing divorce.

Ian just stood there, totally stunned–he felt like his heart had dropped into an abyss.

She didn’t hold back at all, practically dragging all his secrets into the daylight, letting everyone know she couldn’t wait to tell the world they were splitting up.

That twisting ache in his chest hit so hard that he clutched at it without even thinking.

Back in his car, Ian sat there for a long while, letting the silence settle in.

Finally, he sent Chloe a message before driving off.

After dropping Philip and Simon off at their room, Chloe saw the message from Ian reminding her to take her meds.

‘Typical,’ Chloe scoffed to herself, pretending she hadn’t even seen it.

Around ten in the morning, Andrea knocked and walked into Chloe’s clinic room.

Chloe glanced at the registration list on her computer, and when she saw Andrea’s name, her expression turned cold in an instant.

Before Andrea could sit down, Chloe said, “Sorry, you’ll have to see someone else. I can’t help you.”

Andrea met Chloe’s frosty stare with a provocative smirk. “Dr. Irvine, I know you’re not exactly thrilled that Ian’s good to me, but you’re still a doctor. Helping people is your job, and I already booked an appointment with you. You can’t just tell me to leave.”

Chloe really had no interest in sparring with Andrea.

She said, “Andrea, we’re both women here. No matter how messy things are between me and Ian, I never once set out to make things hard for you.”

Chloe went on, “Sure, I was the fool who misjudged him, and Ian was the one who hurt me. You’re not exactly innocent in all this, but honestly? I just want nothing to do with you.”

She added, “Listen, the Hamilton family already knows your son isn’t related to Ian at all. While Edward’s still out cold, you better talk things through with Ian and have him figure out somewhere for you to land. Otherwise, once Edward wakes up, he’ll tear you apart and by then, it’ll be too late for regret.”

Andrea asked, her voice shaky with guilt, “How can you be so sure my son isn’t Ian’s?”

Ian’s words were sharp, almost bitter. “All because I covered for you, kept your kid’s secret–Chloe had a miscarriage. I lost my own child.”

Andrea staggered back a few steps, nearly collapsing from the shock.

‘So that’s what it was,‘ she realized, everything clicking into place.

‘No wonder that old witch Miranda suddenly flipped out on me,’ Andrea thought.

‘So that bitch Chloe was pregnant!‘ Andrea thought, her mind spinning out of control.

‘She even lost the baby!‘

Ian spat, “Andrea, I regret everything I ever did for you. I regret picking you up from the airport that night, I regret wasting a whole month with you, I regret ever claiming Clint as my own. But the thing I regret most is losing my first child with Chloe because of you and your son, and destroying my marriage with her.”

He continued coldly, “You saved my life once, and swallowed your pride for six years overseas because of me. I’ll give you sixty million yuan. Take Clint and get out of here–never come back.”

Ian said, “I’ve already given you more than anyone else ever would. If you refuse, from now on I won’t care what happens to you. Whatever Edward wants to do to you, I won’t stop him.”

Andrea felt as if she’d been plunged straight into hell.

Everything she’d schemed, every move she’d made–now it was all for nothing, down the drain.

Now that bitch Chloe had miscarried, and Ian was drowning in regret, cutting her off for good and leaving her out in the cold.

Even those ancient relics in the Hamilton family had figured out Clint wasn’t truly Ian’s son.

If Edward ever woke up, he’d pin every last bit of blame on her–she’d be the one to suffer for all of it.

Edward would go even harder on her than he did six years ago–he’d destroy her, no mercy.

She couldn’t stay in Kingsford any longer.

She had to get out of here, and fast.

Andrea blurted out, “Ian, I’ll leave!”

Ian nodded.

Just as Jan finished writing the check and was about to hand it to Andrea, Mitchell knocked quickly and stepped inside,

Mitchell gave Andrea a look filled with mixed emotions, then went straight to lan’s side.

He leaned in and whispered something in lan’s car.
