The Billion-Dollar Divorce (Ian and Chloe) novel Chapter 184

Chapter 184

After Chloe fumbled around for a bit, she finally managed to get things under control.

She turned to Julian and said, “I’ll buy you a new pair of pants someday.”

Julian poked at the hole in his pants with his finger. “You weren’t this clumsy before.”

Chloe set down the acupuncture kit in her hands.

She said, “Julian, you’re Ian’s elder. Aren’t you going to do something about how out of line he’s being?”

Julian raised an eyebrow.

Every time she called him ‘uncle,‘ he knew trouble was knocking.

Chloe said, “Ian dragged me back to his place. I was honestly afraid he’d go completely psycho, murder me, hack me to pieces, then go after my whole family. I didn’t dare fight back. You’re his uncle–isn’t there anything you can do to fix him?”

Julian asked, “Are you seriously thinking of leaving him?”

Chloe thumped her chest. “Are you kidding? I want out so bad, I even dream about it!”

Julian lowered his gaze, rolling his prayer beads between his fingers. “Just stay focused with the needles, alright? Last time you spaced out and almost poked a new hole in my skull.”

Chloe was speechless.

By the time Chloe left the Rowe residence, it was already past seven in the evening.

Suddenly, a pair of high beams flashed in her direction, and Chloe slammed on the brakes in shock.

“Chloe, Edward wants to see you at the Old Hamilton Manor,” a voice called out.

Chloe was taken back to the Old Hamilton Manor.

She’d braced herself for another round of yelling, but to her surprise, Edward was actually being nice to her for once.

Edward said, “Ian doesn’t want a divorce, which means he still cares about you. Since Andrea’s kid isn’t even his, why not let it all slide and just focus on a real life with lan? Leave the past in the past.”

Chloe stood in front of Edward, sarcasm flaring up inside. “Edward, did your son never mention that lan was slapped with divorce papers right there in the shareholders‘ meeting?”

Edward replied, “Young people need to look at the big picture. The entire Hamilton estate will be inherited by your children with lan someday. Don’t let one issue hold you back.”

Chloe let out a cold laugh. “I couldn’t care less about the Hamilton family’s wealth and status.”

Shane had finally lost his patience. He pointed straight at Chloe and snapped, “Men are cheating left and right these days. Ian’s top–tier! And that kid, he’s not even his–so he’s never done you dirty. Honestly, you should take a hard look in the mirror. What are you even whining about?”

Chloe fired back, her voice unwavering, “Doesn’t matter how amazing your son is–I’m not living with him, and I’m sure as hell not having his kids. Want a standoff? Fine by me. I’ve got nothing to lose, so what do I care?

Edward’s expression twisted with anger. “I threw money at that Andrea woman to get rid of her, never thought Ian would drag home someone like you. Some luck this family’s got!”

When lan showed up, Edward was hunched on the couch, wheezing with anger, Shane was blowing his top, and the whole living room was a madhouse. Chloe just hung back, playing spectator to the family meltdown.

Ian stepped up to Chloe, a worried look on his face. “You okay?” he asked.

He gave her a quick scan, making sure she hadn’t caught a stray slap or anything. Satisfied, he said, “Head out to the car and wait for me.”

Chloe tossed Ian a glance–equal parts cold and fed up–then turned on her heel and left the room.

Once Chloe was out the door, Shane snapped, “Ian, listen up–Philip’s never lost a case, and Chloe’s one hundred percent done with you. If you don’t get ahead of this fast and grab the reins yourself, you’re gonna get played, mark my words.”

Shane wasn’t finished. “And as for Andrea—if you don’t deal with her now, don’t blame me or your grandpa when we stop saving your face.”

Ian didn’t back down. “Dad, I’ll say it again–I handle my own problems.”

Ian slid into the driver’s seat and glanced over at Chloe, who was glued to her phone in the passenger seat.

He hesitated for a moment, then fired up the engine.

The whole ride home was dead silent.

Chloe headed straight into the master bedroom and locked herself in.

Ian stood outside the door, hesitating for a moment.

He knocked, saying, “Hey, open up. I’m out of bath towels.”

Chloe cracked the door just wide enough to toss a towel out.

Ian tried the door handle, but Chloe instantly locked it again from inside.

But he kept a close eye on Chloe the whole time.

He noticed she was acting weird lately, like she was actually scared of him.

She played everything by the book, going to work, coming home on time, the only thing was she wouldn’t let

him into the master bedroom or even talk to him–other than that, she was following the routine.

She was treating him like he was some kind of serial killer.

Friday morning, Ian caught Chloe as soon as she stepped out of her room.

He stopped her and said, “We’re free tomorrow. How about we go see your folks and drop off some healthy

stuff?”

Chloe didn’t even blink. “Trust me, my parents have zero interest in seeing you.”

Before Chloe could even process what was happening, Ian had already wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her close.

She instinctively reached out to push him away, but the moment her eyes met his, all she saw was that dangerous glint–like he was ready to pounce.

Chloe’s heart started pounding.

Just as Chloe’s mind was racing, Ian’s phone suddenly rang.

Ian let go of Chloe and turned away to answer the call.

Chloe could clearly hear Mitchell’s voice on the other end. “Mr. Hamilton, that billion–dollar deal you just locked down? Someone intercepted it and snatched it away from us.”

Chloe muttered under her breath, “Who the hell has the guts to steal a billion–dollar project from the Hamilton Group?”

Ian turned around, his face stormy.
