Chapter 190
It was Monday morning.
Ian had just finished a morning meeting and returned to his office when Mitchell walked in, his face grim.
“Mr. Hamilton, Ms. Sherman is up on the roof with her kid, threatening to jump. The firefighters are already on the scene, hoping you’ll come over and help talk her down,” Mitchell said.
Ian leaned back in his chair, falling silent for a moment.
Mitchell said, “Mr. Hamilton, Ms. Sherman is so desperate she’d rather risk everything with her kid than even try to reach out to the child’s real father. Is it possible that the guy doesn’t even exist, or maybe he’s already dead?”
Ian slowly got up from his chair. “Head over there right now.”
Mitchell looked absolutely miserable. “Mr. Hamilton, she’s asking for you. I doubt I can calm her down.”
Ian replied, “Call me once you arrive.”
Mitchell gritted his teeth, bracing himself as he walked out, feeling like he was heading straight into trouble.
By midday, Mitchell brought Andrea and her son to the place Ian had prepared for them.
When Andrea saw Ian waiting there, she couldn’t hold back her tears and started crying right on the spot.
She was just about to rush toward Ian, but he walked right past her and stopped in front of Mitchell.
Andrea missed him entirely, left standing there in shock.
Ian eyed Mitchell and quipped, “What’s with the mask in the middle of the day? Trying out a new look?”
Mitchell pulled off the mask, showing off a face full of fresh scratches, looking all kinds of beaten up.
Ian couldn’t help but frown at the sight.
Mitchell sighed, “I did what you said and went to talk Ms. Sherman down, but luck wasn’t on my side–I ended up bumping into my wife, my sister–in–law, and my mother–in–law…”
Ian
gave Mitchell a pat on the shoulder, “Hey, it’s just family business. No big deal.”
Mitchell silently put his mask back on, not saying a word.
Jan turned to Andrea and said, “Andrea, I always thought you were a responsible mother, but I never imagined you’d take your child up there with you and threaten to jump off the building.”
Andrea covered her face, her voice trembling as she cried, “lan, I don’t have a penny to my name, no job, no friends. Your mom keeps hounding me for money every couple of days. It’s making my depression so much worse, and I can’t sleep a wink. If I’d known just how hopeless things would be for me and my son after
coming back, maybe we really would’ve been better off dying in Tecnovia.”
lan just looked at Andrea in silence for a moment.
He said, “I’ll have Cora come over soon to take care of things for you and your son. Whatever necessities you need, just tell her and she’ll get it.”
Andrea stood in front of lan, visibly tense and almost jittery from anxiety.
‘Money is what I need, not someone to run errands!‘ Andrea thought, feeling more exasperated than ever.
‘Seriously, what’s going through Ian’s head?‘ she griped inwardly, completely baffled.
Realizing she wasn’t getting her way, Andrea suddenly lost all strength and crumpled to the floor.
Andrea clung to Ian’s pant leg, her voice shaky. “Ian, I’m so dizzy… I haven’t slept for days. I’ve seen so many doctors but nothing works. Could you talk to your wife and see if she can prescribe me something? Please?”
Ian paused, considering her for a second. “Leave it to me. I’ll handle it.”
Seeing a glimmer of hope finally light up Andrea’s face, Ian gave her a steady look before heading out. “I know I’ve neglected you and your son lately because of work. Try to rest and don’t stress yourself out. Once things calm down, I promise I’ll make sure you and your boy are truly settled.”
After Ian left, Andrea slowly managed to pull herself off the floor.
She was sure of it now–even if Ian wasn’t ready to end their marriage, he’d never turn his back on her and her son.
After leaving Andrea’s place, Ian headed back to The Old Hamilton Manor.
As soon as he sat down, Shane and Miranda started pressuring him to divorce Chloe.
Miranda said, “Ian, this divorce is getting way too complicated. Sir Julian isn’t backing down, and you know how tough Philip’s legal team is. It won’t be long before you get the court summons. The board wants you to address this head–on–you really need to think this through!”
Shane chimed in, “Just look at her lately. She’s always siding with outsiders, running around with all sorts of shady guys. If this keeps up-”
“Dad!” Ian finally snapped, unable to take it anymore.
Ian finally snapped, unable to listen any longer, and cut them off.
Ian rose to his feet, shoulders heavy with fatigue, but his resolve was unshakable as he faced his parents. “Even if the whole world is against me, I will never divorce Chloe.”
With that, Ian left The Old Hamilton Manor and headed straight back to the office.
As the workday was winding down, Mitchell saw off the CEO of Grand Horizon Group and then hurried back to his office.
When she saw the lavish spread on the table, Chloe carefully took a seat.
Chloe kept a wary eye on the bowl of soup lan placed in front of her, and she couldn’t help but think of that infamous scene where the wife poisons her husband.
Chloe cleared her throat, trying to sound calm. “I’m not really hungry. If there’s something on your mind, just say it.”
Noticing her all jittery and on edge, Jan simply placed the soup bowl in front of her.

Ian began, a bit uncertain, “Chloe, do you remember that little town we went to for our second anniversary?”
Chloe fixed her gaze on Ian, suspicion written all over her face. “What exactly are you trying to do?”
Ian said, “That inn we stayed at called the police because a child went missing. Before they arrived, you managed to hypnotize the guy they caught and made him confess where the kidnapped kids were hiding. You saved two or three kids that night. Do you remember?”
Chloe brushed Ian’s hand away. “Is that what this is about?”
Ian took her hand again. “I need you to treat Andrea. Use hypnosis to guide her—and get her to open up, tell me the real truth.”
Chloe yanked her hand back and shut him down instantly. “No way.”
First off, she and Andrea could barely stand each other.
Besides, she was a doctor. Hypnotizing a patient without their consent went against her professional ethics- she couldn’t and wouldn’t do it.
Chloe shot up from her seat and made a beeline for the door.
Ian was quick on his feet, cutting her off before she could step out of the dining room.
