Chapter 21

On the other side, Andrea had her servant Linda call Ian multiple times, but he stubbornly refused to come.
Just as she was about to send him a message herself, the doorbell rang.
A slow, triumphant smile curved Andrea’s lips. She told Linda to return to her room, then started tidying her hair.
But she froze in shock when she opened the door–standing there were Mia and Patrick.
Mia’s
eyes blazed with anger. Andrea’s smile vanished instantly.
After a brief hesitation, she forced a polite tone. “Miss Hamilton… it’s so late. What brings you here?”
Mia bent down, picked up a pair of men’s slippers at the entrance, and scanned the size. It fit Ian’s size.
The fury she had tried to suppress flared anew. She threw the slippers aside with a sharp thud.
“So this is the cage Ian built for you little canary?” she said, voice dripped with sarcasm.
Andrea hurried to explain. “Miss Hamilton, you’ve misunderstood. Ian and I–it was years before.”
Mia clicked her heels toward Andrea and suddenly yanked one of her earrings off.
Andrea gasped, clutching her ear and stumbling backward:
“These DR Lumin diamond earrings worth a fortune,” said Mia. “Did you buy it yourself, or did you spend Ian’s money?”
Andrea answered truthfully. “Ian gave it to me.”
In a swift motion, Mia grabbed Andrea by the hair and dragged her close. “And that’s what you call ‘years before?”
Andrea struggled, her voice trembling. “Miss Hamilton, it’s not what you think…”

“Do you even realize Ian has a wife?” Mia cut her off. “And yet here you are, calling and messaging him in the middle of the night. What exactly are you trying to do?”
Andrea’s gaze darted nervously. “We’re just friends. It’s not what you’re thinking!”
“Friends, huh?” Mia ground her teeth. “Bombarding lan with messages at midnight, and that’s what you call ‘friends‘? If you’re craving a man, just say so. I can line you up with a few–no problem.”
With that, she grabbed Patrick and shoved him forward.
“This is Patrick from the Lewis family, one of Kingsford’s four major clans,” said Mia with a sarcastic tone. “Rich, handsome, abs for days.
Guaranteed satisfaction.”
“Uh,” Patrick raised his hands helplessly. “I don’t do divorcees.”
Andrea’s face fell, tears welling in her eyes. She tried to defend herself.
“Miss Hamilton, I don’t know what I did to offend you,” she said. “There’s really nothing between me and Ian.”
Patrick tugged Mia a few steps back. “Watch out, she’s trying to practice witchcraft on you just like she did to Ian.”
Mia shrugged him off, pointing a finger at Andrea. “Look, Ian is a realist. Someone like you–no background and no talent? Your looks alone aren’t even worth a bid.”
Andrea bit her lip, her face pale. She hadn’t expected a confrontation with Ian’s sister–but here she was. There was no fighting back.
“If you’re trying to climb upward using your body,” Mia stepped closer, her words slow and sharp, “fine, go ahead with someone else. But
not with Ian.”
Her gaze hardened. “Six years ago, you couldn’t even set foot in us Hamilton

Andrea quickly shut off her phone. “I’m just scared. I don’t want to do anything.”
She lay in bed, heart breaking, for a long while. Thinking of her family, she stumbled to her feet and overdosed a few melatonin.
After that, she turned off her phone and lay back down. She just wanted a good sleep.
When the Irvine family was prosperous, all she could think of was Ian. When her family fell from grace, Ian was still her highest priority.
Even now, broken and battered, he was still on her mind.
She knew she really was pathetic, but she was also exhausted.
She eventually fell asleep. The next morning, she woke up early as usual, then tidied herself and dressed up.
There was no time to rest. Chloe knew she had to push through.
She was no longer the girl who followed Ian around, asking him to buy her hair ties,
And she was no longer the clingy love–brain wife, waiting for him to come home from work everyday.
From now on, she was just herself.
She arrived the hospital as usual. Yesterday, John had told her a special patient would arrive today, and she needed to be fully alert.
After completing all pre–clinic preparations, Chloe finally turned her phone on.
Missed calls and messages flooded in, overwhelming her. Most were from the middle of the night–some from lan, some from Mia, and some from Patrick.
Only after seeing Patrick’s message did Chloe realize Mia had gone to confront Andrea last night.

Chloe understood that Mia wanted to help her, but she also knew that no one else could solve her problem, except herself.
Worried, she quickly dialed Mia’s number.
