In a panic, she rushed forward and shoved Chloe hard, trying to snatch the phone from her hand.

Chloe hadn’t expected Vivian to be so aggressive–she nearly lost her footing from the shove, and her phone crashed to the floor, the screen shattering.

Chloe picked up the ruined phone, looked up at Vivian, and slapped her hard across the face.

Vivian clutched her stinging cheek, still in shock, when Chloe warned, “Vivian, try laying hands on me again and it won’t be just a slap next time.”

“And you owe me a new phone,” Chloe snapped.

With that, she turned and headed back toward the hospital.

Before, Chloe had always tolerated Andrea Sherman for a reason.

She wanted to preserve Andrea’s reputation as the kind–hearted one–it made things easier to push that divorce with Ian along.

Whenever Andrea tried to stir things up, Chloe pretty much turned a blind eye.

Unless she absolutely had to, Chloe couldn’t even be bothered to expose her true colors.

After spending so much time with Andrea, Vivian really started thinking Chloe was someone she could walk all overa total softie.

Vivian shot daggers at Chloe’s back, barely able to contain her rage. “Bitch, you dare play games with me? Just you wait–I’ll make you regret it!”

After work, Chloe still hadn’t gotten that new phone from Vivian. Instead, a car from the Monroe family showed up for her.

Thomas Quinn, the Monroe family’s butler, came over respectfully and said, “Ms. Irvine, Amelia Monroe invites you over.”

Chloe saw the car door already open and hopped in without a second thought.

Over an hour later, Chloe arrived at the Monroe estate.

When she stepped into the living room, everyone from the Monroe family was there–and lan was there too,

Chloe was taken aback to see lan.

Jan immediately got up and strode toward Chloe, concern written all over his face.

He scanned her from head to toe, worry clear in his eyes. Did she hurt you?‘ lan asked, his voice low and

tense.

With the entire Monroe family watching, Chloe made sure to keep her cool and stay composed.

Chloe pushed Ian back, her movements calm and controlled, then shook her head. “I’m fine,” she replied, keeping her voice steady.

Vivian stood in the middle of the living room, watching lan fuss over Chloe, her brows knitting in disbelief.

Everyone said lan never cared about Chloe, that he had no feelings for her whatsoever.

‘Why is he still so worked up over that bitch, even after they’re divorced?‘ Vivian fumed inwardly.

Amelia Monroe greeted Chloe with eyes full of loving warmth, like she was welcoming her own granddaughter home.

“Chloe, I heard everything you said on the phone,” Amelia assured her with a protective tone. “As long as this old lady’s around, nobody’s going to bully you–not a chance.”

Jonny Monroe, Vivian’s father, snapped at her, “Get over here and apologize to Dr. Irvine, now!”

Vivian never expected things to blow up like this.

Trying to smooth things over, Vivian walked up to Chloe with her head down. “I’m sorry, Dr. Irvine. I was out of line today. I apologize.”

Chloe didn’t even blink. “I don’t accept your apology.” Her voice was ice–cold.

Vivian had never liked her–this apology was just because she had to, not because she meant it. There wasn’t a shred of genuine remorse behind it.

Vivian was stunned that Chloe would flat–out embarrass her like that in front of her grandmother and father -she totally blew her top on the spot.

“Hey, Irvine, I already said I’m sorry! What the hell do you want from me?” Vivian barked, her voice bristling with anger.

Vivian, about to shove Chloe again, was stopped in her tracks as lan took a decisive step forward and called out, his tone icy, “Miss Monroe!”

lan’s cold, piercing stare made Vivian instinctively recoil, her bravado vanishing.

Amelia was absolutely furious.

She jabbed her finger at her son, seething. “As long as I’m around, you are never to let that disgrace set foot in this house again!”

Jonny didn’t waste any time. “You got it, Mom I’ll kick her out of the Monroe family right now.”

فق

Vivian just stood there, totally stunned.

Realizing he’d messed up, Jonny quickly tried to fix it. “Please, Mr. Hamilton, Dr. Irvine, I hope you can let her off just this once.”

At the front gate, Ian blocked Chloe’s way, holding the umbrella steadily over her. “It’s raining cats and dogs out here–good luck hailing a cab in this mess. Let me give you a ride home,” Ian insisted, not taking no for an

Chloe stopped and asked lan directly, “How did you know I had a run–in with Vivian?

Just as Chloe was about to nudge lan away, a flashy sports car rolled up right in front of them.

Arthur held the umbrella in one hand and slung his other arm casually around Chloe’s shoulders.

Without a second thought, Ian stormed forward and swatted Arthur’s arm off Chloe’s shoulder.

Arthur just smirked, shooting lan a provoking look before boldly slinging his arm right back around Chloe.

Arthur snickered, “Mr. Hamilton, when you were married and sneaking around with your mistress, I didn’t see you being this uptight. What’s gotten into you now?”

Ian’s face turned stormy, and this time he practically slapped Arthur’s arm away from Chloe’s shoulder, not holding back at all.

Chloe saw what was happening and hurried Arthur, “Let’s just get in the car already.”

Arthur looped his arm around Chloe’s and, just to provoke Ian, dramatically rested his head on her shoulder, milking the moment for all it was worth.

Ian stepped in front of Chloe, jaw clenched, doing everything he could to keep his temper in check.

He fixed Arthur with a cold, murderous glare. “Go ahead–test me. I’ll rip your head off, you hear me?”

Arthur handed the umbrella to Chloe, grinning. “Chloe, hold this for me, will you?”

Chloe had no choice but to take the umbrella from Arthur.

Arthur pointed at Ian and then at himself, flashing a cocky grin.

The next second, Arthur stooped down and hugged Chloe’s waist, his eyes provocatively locked on Ian. “See? I’m all over her, I’m holding her closeso what are you gonna do about it?”

Ian glared at Chloe, his eyes smoldering with a mix of anger and barely contained jealousy.

Chloe glanced back at Arthur, a flicker of annoyance and resignation crossing her face.

Arthur kept up his taunting, putting on that exaggerated, singsong voice as he called Chloe “baby” one minute and ‘sis” the next, clearly just to rile lan up.

Chloe watched as Jan flung his umbrella straight at them–he was seconds away from totally losing his cool.

She quickly nudged Arthur, “Arthur, if you keep needling him like this, he’s seriously about to go off the rails. Come on, let’s bail before he loses it!”

Before Chloe could finish her warning, the grip around her waist abruptly loosened.

Bang–before she even registered what was happening, lan had already cornered Arthur inside his car, jumped in after him, and slammed the doors locked.

Chloe just stood there holding the umbrella, watching the black luxury car bounce up and down in the rain like it was on a rollercoaster–and honestly, she was absolutely dumbstruck
