When Simon, bored, wanted to find Carl to play with, Chloe realized that Carl and Arthur were not around.
Chloe asked around, and a waiter told her that he had just seen the two of them go upstairs.
Patrick, standing nearby, said offhandedly, “Ian just went upstairs too. Are the three of them together?”
Mia said, “No way. Mr. Logan and Ian always get into it when they meet, and Carl acts like Ian’s his sworn enemy. How could those three possibly be together?”
Chloe and Philip exchanged a glance.
‘Something doesn’t feel right… Chloe thought, her heart skipping a beat.
Ever since she separated from Ian and her brother got his wrist hurt by him, Carl had been training in kickboxing nonstop.
He didn’t even skip kickboxing the day before the SAT.
With Arthur in the mix, Chloe figured those two probably went upstairs to find Ian.
Thinking that, Chloe quickly handed Simon to Philip and hurried upstairs to look for them.
Patrick, Philip, and Mia exchanged a glance and hurried after her.
Not far away, Benjamin and a few guests saw what was happening and followed as well.
Chloe rushed up to the second floor, practically running as she searched everywhere for them.
Ian was no saint.
If Carl and Arthur tried to mess with him, Ian definitely wouldn’t let those two off easy.
Just then, Chloe suddenly heard a huge crash coming from a room up ahead. She was about to open the door when it swung wide from inside.
Arthur tumbled out, looking totally disheveled.
Chloe came to a screeching halt, her eyes wide as she stared at Arthur, who had literally tumbled out and landed in the hallway, looking like his world just got flipped upside down.
Arthur looked back at Chloe and the gang trailing behind her, just as dumbstruck.
Patrick was the quickest to react, stepping forward and hauling Arthur up by the arm. “Dude, what the heck happened to you?”
Arthur, still kinda dazed, just jabbed a finger at the room behind him, not even bothering to explain.

Chloe and Patrick shared a quick glance, and Chloe darted straight into the room.
The place looked like it’d just been robbed.
Ian and Carl were scrambling around, trying to clean up the mess.
Chloe, anxious, yanked Carl over and demanded, “What just happened in here?”
Carl and lan both blurted out at the same time, “Nothing.”
After saying that, Carl slipped out of the room, guilt written all over his face.

Arthur, still holding his waist with a grumpy face, complained, “Why did he just beat up on me and let you off the hook?”
Carl shot back with a smirk, “Come on, Arthur, don’t get mad. Next time, we’ll switch up–I’ll go in for the attack and you hold the line. Trust me, there’s no way we can’t take him down together.”
But the moment they saw Ian and Chloe walk out of the room, both of them instantly zipped their lips.
Vivian watched as Simon, Philip’s son, was hanging onto Carl Irvine, shouting “Uncle!”
Not wanting to make a scene herself, Vivian pulled her two friends aside and whispered a few words to them.
One of Vivian’s friends spoke up, eyeing Chloe with a smirk. “Why does Philip’s kid keep calling Dr. Irvine’s brother ‘uncle‘? Don’t tell me Dr. Irvine and Philip are secretly getting together or something?”
Vivian’s other friend glanced at Chloe and teased, “Dr. Irvine, you just divorced Mr. Hamilton. Already moving on? That was quick!”
Mia was just about to speak up, but Patrick reached out and pulled her right back.
Philip’s brow furrowed as he stepped up to Chloe, about to say something–but Chloe gave him a quick look and stopped him cold.
Seeing Chloe stay silent, Vivian couldn’t hold it back any longer and blurted out, “Dr. Irvine, don’t tell me you’re really thinking of becoming someone else’s stepmom?”
Chloe stood her ground, shooting Vivian a frosty glare.
Her tone was chilly, with a clear warning. “Vivian, whether I end up as someone’s stepmom or find somebody new, it’s got nothing to do with you.”
Vivian looked around at everyone, her words hanging awkwardly in the air after Chloe’s chilly warning. Not wanting to push her luck, she shut her mouth and didn’t say another word.
But when she saw Jan stride right up to Chloe, Vivian’s jealousy flared–she clamped down on her lower lip.

When lan got divorced and Andrea was sent to prison, Vivian really thought her shot had finally come.
He edged a little closer to Chloe, trying to explain himself. “I swear, I didn’t mean it. And it’s not like Carl let it slide–he got his own shots in. At least he got to vent.”
She said, “Ian, trust me–I’ll never forget what you did to me and my family.”
“You want me to forget? That’ll only happen when I’m six feet under,” Chloe said, her tone cold and unyielding.
She didn’t spare a glance at the pain carved into Jan’s face–Chloe spun around and strode away, every step firm and decisive.

Ian frowned and asked, “Why didn’t you say anything when everyone started thinking you and Philip had something going on?”
Chloe jerked her hand out of Ian’s hold. “Philip and I are both single. Seriously, what’s there to talk about?”
Ian just stood there, staring at Chloe’s unyielding back as she walked away, all his frustration twisting inside him. He finally let it out by slamming his fist into the hallway wall.
When Chloe came down from the second floor, the whole place was a lively mess, loud and bustling.
Arthur and Carl rushed right over, concern all over their faces. “He didn’t give you any trouble, did he?” Arthur asked.
Chloe shook her head.
When she spotted Ian and Benjamin heading her way, Chloe lowered her eyes, pretending not to notice them at all.
Ian’s eyes stayed glued to Chloe the entire time, but he kept his distance, never daring to get close.
Benjamin flashed a grin. “Okay, everyone, time to draw lots. Whoever gets lucky, you get to be my little sis Sophie’s first dance partner tonight.”
Patrick waved dismissively. “Please, I’m practically ancient–let Arthur and Carl handle the fun.”
Carl raised his hands in protest. “Me? Come on, I seriously can’t dance!”
Arthur put his hands on his hips, snorting with fake arrogance. “Like hell I’m dancing with that brat.”
Arthur’s comeback made everyone burst out laughing.
Just then, a tall woman came over, gracefully holding a champagne flute. “What’s everyone chatting about? You all seem so lively,” she said with an easy smile.
She was dressed in a light–colored pantsuit, her makeup flawless, and her short hair styled in a sleek 4:6 side part tucked behind her ears. The only accessories she wore were a luxury watch on her wrist and a delicate necklace–nothing flashy, just pure elegance.
She looked sharp, confident, and stylish all at once.
Benjamin glanced discreetly at Ian before stepping forward. “Let me introduce you all–this is Miss Margaret, heiress of the Goodwin family.”
