The Billion-Dollar Divorce (Ian and Chloe) novel Chapter 236

Chapter 236

Chloe remained completely unfazed while everyone else stared in shock, casually tugging her sleeve a bit higher.

No matter how hard Ian tried to hide it, you could see the heartache written all over his deep eyes.

Fighting through the discomfort in his body, Ian stepped right up to Chloe again. “Who hurt you?”

Chloe didn’t bother answering Ian. Instead, she turned her gaze toward Violet.

Ian followed Chloe’s line of sight to Violet, danger flashing in his narrowed eyes.

Chloe kept her expression perfectly innocent as she spoke up for everyone to hear: “Mrs. Quinn pinched my arm so hard, I couldn’t take it. I tried to pull away, but she just squeezed me tighter. That’s why I accidentally knocked her over.”

Violet shot back immediately, her voice trembling. “That’s not true!”

Violet was stunned–she hadn’t seen Chloe throwing the blame back at her coming at all.

Still leaning weakly against her husband, Violet pointed accusingly at Chloe. “I never touched you! You’ve always hated my niece, and you shoved me on purpose just to try to make me lose the baby!”

Chloe kept up that innocent look and fired back at Violet, “Mrs. Quinn, yeah, I’ll admit I’ve had my issues with Andrea Sherman, but before today, I didn’t even know you were a thing–heck, I had no clue Andrea was your niece.”

Chloe continued, “Seriously, you think I’d go and pinch myself up like this on purpose, knowing those cameras are everywhere, just so I could frame someone I literally don’t know at all?”

Violet was honestly floored–never thought Chloe would pull a stunt like that right at her.

She’d already announced who she was downstairs in the banquet hall, but Chloe really kept her cool with everyone watching.

She was out here pretending she had no idea Violet had anything to do with the Sherman family–right in front of the whole crowd.

Violet was at a total loss for words, completely stunned by Chloe’s rebuttal.

Chloe stepped forward, standing right in front of Violet,

She said, “Mrs. Quinn, you know perfectly well I’m Eric Jordan’s guest tonight, yet you still go out of your way to throw dirt on my name and try to drive a wedge between the Quinn and Jordan families. What’s your real agenda here?”

Before Violet could respond, Eric Jordan spoke up first, “Mr. Quinn, have the Jordan family done anything to offend you?”

Seeing the situation getting tense, Henry quickly stepped in to smooth things over. “Mr. Jordan, what are you saying? The Quinn family and Jordan family have always had a strong relationship–this is all just a misunderstanding, I assure you.”

Henry was eager to de–escalate the situation, immediately signaling Thomas Quinn not to call the police.

Patrick shot a playful look at the Sherman family and said, “Thomas, you know how it is–just take what the ladies say with a grain of salt. Don’t let one thing cloud your judgment and risk everything the Quinn family has built over the years.”

Patrick’s words were loaded, and Henry’s face kept shifting with unease.

Violet shot Patrick a look, barely holding back her anger, her jaw clenched tight.

She steadied her breath, turned to a servant, and asked them to bring over a hundred thousand in cash. With her own hands, she passed the thick wad straight to Chloe.

Violet Quinn said, “Dr. Irvine, you’re a guest in our home tonight. Let’s just say tonight’s trouble was my fault -please accept this as compensation for your dress and the medical bills. I hope you and Mr. Jordan won’t take it to heart.”

Chloe and Ian had been divorced for ages–word was, she left the marriage without a penny to her name.

Sure, she came tonight as Eric Jordan’s guest, but even if she was a department head, it’s not like doctors were rolling in cash.

Neither Violet nor Vivian could even tell what brand Chloe’s dress was; at best, it might fetch a few grand.

Getting a hundred thousand for this? Honestly, Chloe thought she’d totally lucked out.

Chloe glanced at the money, sounding almost amused: “A hundred thousand?” Patrick let out a mocking laugh.

Eric Jordan just shook his head.

Ian frowned, looking completely unimpressed.

Chloe didn’t reach out to take the cash Violet was offering.

She turned to Henry and said, “Mr. Quinn, just now your wife accused me of revenge, saying I pushed her to make her lose the baby. You called the police right away, and even went so far as to threaten Eric Jordan.”

Chloe continued, “Now that everyone can see who started it–your wife was the one holding a grudge and hurt me first–and now you just want to brush it all off like it’s nothing? Mr. Quinn, in all honesty, don’t you think that’s crossing the line?”

Seeing the room grow even more tense, Henry snapped at Thomas to hurry up and bring another hundred thousand in cash–right away.

Jan strode to Chloe’s side, his expression icy and every word dripping with disdain. “Mr. Quinn, you actually think the Hamilton family needs your lousy two hundred thousand?”

Ian’s words made it crystal clear to everyone just where he stood when it came to Chloe.

Once she finished, Chloe turned to Ian. “Mr. Hamilton, you tell everyone–am I wrong?

Then Ian’s gaze turned cold, a warning in his eyes. “But if I catch anyone making trouble for my ex–wife because of Andrea Sherman–no matter if you’re from one of the eight powerhouses–you’ll be answering to

me.”

Henry shot Violet a complicated look, then forced himself to step in and smooth things over. “Mr. Hamilton, Dr. Irvine, my wife really didn’t think this through. Please, let’s not let this ruin the night. Another day, my wife and I will host a proper dinner to apologize to you both.”

Chloe knew that Henry was only caving because he couldn’t afford to offend Ian, Eric Jordan, or Patrick. With the three of them standing behind her, his pride didn’t matter one bit.

If it weren’t for them, no matter how right she was, she wouldn’t have stood a chance against all those voices.

But now that things had come to this, there was nothing left to do but let it end like this.

Watching from the sidelines, Patrick decided it was a good moment to speak up. “Mr. Quinn, maybe you should go ahead and compensate Dr. Irvine for her medical expenses and the dress first.”

Violet quickly glanced at her husband, then put on a polite face and said, “Dr. Irvine, why don’t you name your price? How much do you think is fair?”

Violet was clearly passing the problem right back to Chloe, throwing her squarely into the hot seat in front of

everyone.

With all eyes on her, if Chloe dared to ask for too much, she’d instantly become the villain in the crowd’s eyes. But if she pretended the dress wasn’t worth much, she’d just turn into everyone’s laughing stock.

Chloe sighed, barely bothering to hide how over all the drama she was, and said, “This dress? It was a gift from Philip. I’ll just give him a call and find out what it cost–just cover the original price, and I’m good.”

Her words had everyone buzzing, the crowd breaking out in a wave of shocked whispers and gossip.

Vivian sneered, “Dr. Irvine, Philip’s a heavyweight in the legal world–are you sure he gifted you something this basic?

Chloe gave Vivian an indifferent glance, then, right in front of the crowd, dialed up Philip and switched her phone to speaker mode.

Ian’s gaze on Chloe grew colder, his eyes locked on her with a complicated intensity.

Turns out the dress Chloe was wearing tonight was actually a gift from Philip.
