Chloe and Eric entered the consultation room to find a young man casually perched on the exam table, scrolling through his phone.
He was tall and dressed head–to–toe in designer streetwear, complete with an earring, a pinky ring, and a messy crop of hair streaked with dusty lavender. The whole look screamed expensive and trendy.
A middle–aged man who looked like a butler stood by with his hands folded, flanked by several bodyguards in suits and sunglasses.
Eric walked up to Thomas. “Mr. Bingham, the doctor for Mr. Logan is here. If you could all please wait outside.”
The man bowed respectfully to the young man. “Mr. Logan, we’ll be waiting for you right outside.”
As Mr. Bingham and the bodyguards left, Arthur Logan slowly lowered his phone.
He propped himself up on his hands, leaning back slightly in a lazy, casual pose.
His brownish–gray eyes brazenly sized Chloe up. “She looks more like a decorative piece than a doctor. Are you sure she’s qualified, Mr. Jordan?”
Chloe couldn’t help but frown.
It was the first time anyone had described her as a fragile antique, and she was offended.
Eric shot Chloe an awkward glance. “Dr. Irvine is our hospital’s leading expert in sleep disorders. If you’re willing, Mr. Logan, she’ll be your attending physician.”
Arthur beckoned to Chloe with a crooked finger. “Expert, come over here.”
Chloe didn’t move.
She said coolly, “You’re the patient, and I’m the doctor. If you can’t show basic respect, then you should find someone else.”
Solving insomnia requires a patient’s full cooperation.
This
guy was clearly going to be a handful.
If she didn’t set the ground rules now, her work would be impossible.
Arthur was shocked that someone wasn’t playing along.
With an exaggerated look of disbelief, he hopped off the table.
He walked right up to Chloe, using his height to loom over her, his presence immediately intimidating.
He put his hands on his hips, leaned down, and stared at Chloe’s beautiful face. “Wow, you’ve got more

Staring at Arthur’s mixed–heritage features up close, Chloe realized for the first time that a man could be more beautiful than a woman.
Jan’s handsomeness was rugged and masculine, a lethal attraction fueled by raw testosterone.
But the man in front of her had an androgynous, almost otherworldly beauty.
Compelling and dangerous.
Meeting his brownish–gray eyes, Chloe asked him, “So, are you getting treatment or not?”
Arthur gestured theatrically between Chloe and himself before turning to Eric. “She’s a doctor, and she dares to talk to me like that?”
Eric hesitated for a moment before reminding him, “Dr. Irvine is Mr. Hamilton’s wife.”
Arthur asked, “Which Mr. Hamilton?”
Eric replied, “Ian Hamilton. From the Hamilton family of Kingsford, Avalonia.”
Arthur stared at Chloe and let out a few short, sharp laughs that made the hair on her arms stand up.
Although she didn’t want to be associated with Ian anymore, Eric had already brought him up, so there was nothing she could say.
Arthur’s brownish–gray eyes were fixed on Chloe. “I’ll do it.
“If you cure me, I’ll be your biggest cheerleader. But if you don’t, and you make my condition worse…”

The two of them left the consultation room and walked past a patient’s room where the TV was playing a financial news segment featuring an exclusive interview with Ian.
Seeing lan on the screen, looking distinguished and gentlemanly in his suit, a sarcastic smile touched Chloe’s lips.
Andrea looked down, guilt–ridden. “I’m sorry, Ian. I got the days mixed up. Clint has a tutoring session today. I just dropped him off.”
Ian glanced at Andrea, his brow furrowing slightly.
Seeing Ian hesitate, Andrea quickly explained, “Ian, I know meeting like this could be easily misunderstood. I booked a private room upstairs. There’s something I need to talk to you about alone.”
Ian hesitated for a moment before following Andrea to the private room upstairs.
A server brought their coffee and left, gently closing the door behind them.
In a calm voice, Andrea said, “Ian, to be honest with you, my brother and sister–in–law were afraid Clint and I would drag them down, so they bought a house and left Kingsford. They left my mother for me to take care of.”
The warmth drained from Ian’s face. “Where are you living now?”
Andrea replied, “For the past couple of days, I’ve been staying in a motel with my mom and Clint. But don’t worry, I’ve already rented a place near Clint’s school. I won’t be a bother to you.”
Ian hesitated before pulling a credit card out and handing it to Andrea. “Take this. Buy a house in your name, It’ll be more stable for you.”
Andrea refused without a second thought. “Ian, your mother was right. You and your wife aren’t divorced yet. It wouldn’t be right for me to take your money. It’s not fair to her.”
She continued, “I’ve already signed with an influencer agency and I start in a couple of days. I’ll take good care of Clint and myself from now on. I’ll stand on my own two feet and try not to cause you any more trouble.”
Ian’s gaze on Andrea was complicated. He didn’t take the card back, nor did he say anything.
Andrea said, “You’ve helped my son and me so much already. I can’t just stand by and watch you and your

wife actually get a divorce. If that happened, I’d be the villain in all this.”
The tension in Jan’s features slowly eased.

He felt an inexplicable sense of relief.
He said, “Andrea, this isn’t your fault. Don’t feel guilty.”
