Chloe tried to convince her parents to move into the city, but they wouldn’t agree.

She knew exactly what was on their minds. They were scared lan might turn on her and come after her for revenge, and they just couldn’t bear to lose face.
But her parents had no clue that she’d already signed a marital agreement with Ian.
As long as she stayed married, every penny Ian owned was hers to use as she pleased.
She was trapped in Ian’s game, and no matter what she tried–every trick, every move–he’d already predicted it all.
Even if escape wasn’t an option, she could keep her cool, cut her losses, and make sure she and her family walked away with as much as possible.
Chloe tried to keep her voice steady as she talked to her mom. “Mom, the Hamilton family is the biggest name in Kingsford. Ian’s their one and only heir–he’s good–looking, knows how to make money, he’s clever, and basically has connections everywhere. He’s powerful and influential. He gave me the title of Mrs. Hamilton and let me live in luxury. What else is left for me to hold onto?”
But no matter how calm Chloe sounded, the bitterness hiding in her voice was clear, and it made Jill’s heart ache for her.
Now that Chloe had finally compromised, her parents–whether they liked it or not–could only accept it.
As noon rolled around, Chloe went out to get lunch.
On her way back to the hospital, she unexpectedly ran into Andrea and Clint in the hallway.
It had been a while since Chloe last saw Andrea, and she could instantly tell Andrea had had a little cosmetic work done. But overall, she still looked pretty much the same.
Andrea was rocking a thin down jacket and was decked out in designer gear from head to toe. Every movement looked practiced, like she’d been coached on how to carry herself.
It was plain to see she’d put in a ton of effort to level up her image behind the scenes.
Andrea noticed Chloe was alone, and a small smile appeared on her lips. “Mrs. Hamilton, long time no see.”
Andrea greeted Chloe warmly, as if she were greeting an old friend.
Chloe gave a quick nod and walked straight toward her mom’s room.
‘Figures, people like that always end up together,‘ Chloe thought with a hint of sarcasm.
‘What a bunch of phonies, she sneered inwardly.

Andrea leaned in and whispered unmething to Clin.
Out of nowhere, Clint raised his water ga Chloe and de, “Way, nude woman Gael you her my sess talking to you?

Andrea just stood there behind her son, not even pretending to stop him.
Just then, Carl stepped out of the hospital room and wonted Andrea and Cline
Seeing his sister getting bullied by a little kid, Carl marched over, writhed Clint by the collar, and warph “You little punk, wanna see if I throw you out?
Clint got so freaked out he dropped his water gun and burst into tears, walling for this mom
Andrea rushed forward to protect her son. Tet go of my childt Even if you have a problem with w, don’t you dare lay a finger on him!”
Chloe shoved Andrea out of the way and turned to her brother Carl, let the kid goi
Carl did as told and set Clint down. “Don’t worry, sis. I was just trying to scare him a bit
Andrea bent down and scooped Clint into her arms, muttering something in his ear. The little brar started crying even louder, kicking around and howling that he was hurting all over
Andrea strutted right up to Chloe, acting all righteous. “Mrs. Hamilton, everyone saw it–your brother laid hands on my son. Now my boy’s saying he’s in pain. I think it’s perfectly reasonable to demand a full–body check–up, don’t you?”
Carl, clearly pissed off, shot back, “Come on, I just picked the kid up! Since when did you see me actually hit him?”
Andrea wouldn’t back down. “Don’t you know kids are super fragile? Sometimes being scared hurts even more than getting injured.”
Chloe knew her brother’s temperament inside out–she could read him like a book.
Ever since he was little, he was the golden boy, showered with luxury and attention, but overnight, he crashed from living at the top to struggling at the bottom.
He looked tough and bossy, but in truth, he was sensitive and impulsive–never malicious, though.

But just when she thought Ian might finally start noticing her, Chloe had the audacity to come back.
Not only were they still together, they actually looked like nothing ever happened between them.
Andrea gritted her teeth, spitting out, “Bitch!”
She’d spent ages scheming, and now, there was nothing about her that was any worse than Chloe. In fact, she was easily Chloe’s equal in every single way.
She honestly couldn’t figure out what kept Ian so hooked on Chloe–I mean, what was there left to miss?
That evening, Chloe had barely stepped through the door when Ian walked in right behind her.
Ian strode right up to Chloe, his voice tense. “What happened with Clint at the hospital today?”

Hearing Ian’s question, Chloe set her phone down and stood up.
In the living room, the two of them just stared at each other in silence for a few seconds.

Chloe didn’t sugarcoat a thing–she looked Ian right in the eye. “My brother really did grab Clint, and yeah, he straight–up threatened to drop him hard enough to hurt him. That’s exactly what happened.”
Chloe snapped, her voice cold, “I know you care about those two. If you really want to take it out on me, go ahead and do it–don’t bother holding back.”
Jan’s face clouded over. “Chloe, I’m just asking a question. Why are you getting all worked up?”
Chloe shot back, raising her voice, “You walk in and start interrogating me–what’s that supposed to mean?”
They locked eyes, caught in a silent standoff–the tension so thick you could cut it with a knife.
Ian finally spoke up, his voice softer now. ‘Chloe, we’re husband and wife. We’ve been childhood sweethearts for so many years–have I ever laid a hand on you?”
Chloe couldn’t help but scoff, her voice icy. Tan, don’t forget–you snapped my brother’s wrist once, just to protect your precious woman!
