The Billionaire Ex-Wife and the Beggar He Became novel Chapter 141

When Julian questioned his assistant, Winona wasn't the least bit surprised.

After all, the clerk handling her and Julian's divorce had already told her—he'd deliver the summons to Julian in person.

Julian, on the other hand, was completely in the dark. "Why does someone from the court want to see me? And I need to go back right away?"

"Yes, Mr. Nicholson. It's about that same summons from last time. Apparently, it's a personal matter, so the judge insists on meeting you in person," Gideon explained over the phone.

"Fine, I'm heading back now."

After hanging up, Julian turned to Winona, his tone cold and commanding. "I don't have your contact information, so you'd better wait here for me. We need to finalize the divorce paperwork this afternoon—no more delays. Otherwise, I'll have no choice but to file for divorce through the courts. As for Yates…"

He trailed off, unsure how to continue.

He just couldn't believe what Winona had said.

If Yates hadn't been sending her living expenses every month, how had she even managed to get by?

"Take me to court?" Winona almost laughed, genuinely exasperated. But she still replied, "Let's hope you keep your word this time. I expect to have the divorce certificate in hand today."

With that, she turned and walked away.

Julian and Felicity got back in the car and headed to the office.

As soon as they arrived at the Nicholson Group headquarters, Julian spotted a judge waiting for him in the lobby.

"Mr. Nicholson, you're certainly a busy man. The last time the court sent you a summons, you never even responded! I figured you must be swamped, so I decided to deliver it myself—right into your hands. Now, there's no way you can say you didn't get it!"

Both Julian and Felicity were stunned.

After her initial shock, Felicity couldn't help but ask, "Who would want to sue Mr. Nicholson? He's always been upstanding and law-abiding—he's never done anything improper."

With her heart full of sweetness and anticipation, Felicity left.

Julian, still holding the unopened summons, headed back to his office, with Gideon following closely behind.

"What is it?" Julian asked, glancing over his shoulder.

"Well, Mr. Nicholson," Gideon began, "your mother asked me to draft an employment contract for Winona. Have you and Winona finalized your divorce yet?"

"My mother wants you to prepare a contract for Winona?" Julian was clearly baffled.

Gideon explained, "She thinks Winona is the best housekeeper she's ever had, but she's worried Winona might become a distraction and interfere with your relationship with Miss Shepherd. That's why she doesn't want Yates, the family butler, handling the contract. She'd rather I process it through the company."

Gideon's words triggered a memory for Julian. He had previously asked Yates to draft a contract for Winona to stay on as the family's housekeeper, but after all the trouble and drama with Winona, he'd decided against it. There was no way he wanted to hire her as the Nicholson family's housekeeper again.
