Julian picked up right away, but all he said was, "I'm busy at noon," before hanging up.
Winona stared at her phone in disbelief.
If Julian had been standing in front of her just then, she would have gladly tossed her coffee in his face.
Winona, usually the picture of composure, felt a bitter wave of resentment and disappointment she couldn't contain.
All these years, she had loved Julian so deeply she'd nearly lost herself in the process.
Maybe that's why Julian had come to take her for granted.
With him refusing to see her, there was nothing more she could do about the divorce for now. She would table it and focus on preparing for her research trip abroad.
Winona left the café and drove directly to her office.

Bunny Abode Interior Design was a well-known firm in the country, and the current CEO, Wesley Quigley, was more than just her boss—he was her closest friend, practically family.
Early in her career, when Winona lacked both qualifications and contacts, Wesley placed his trust in her. His backing earned her a spot at Bunny Abode, allowing her to build her career over the years as a designer and budget consultant.
She owed him more than she could ever repay.
"Nona, what brings you here?" Wesley greeted her warmly.
"Wesley, I'd like to take my proposal and visit a few European countries with aging populations for some field work," Winona said apologetically. "And when I get back, I might have to resign."
Wesley's smile was reassuring. "Nona, don't even think twice about it. I've seen your talent and your ambition—go after what you want. If you ever need help, just ask. And if you're looking for investors, I can introduce you."
Winona teared up briefly. Then she offered a bright, sincere smile. "Absolutely, Wesley. Thank you!"
Just as they were about to step inside, Wesley took a call. Whatever was said on the other end made him frown; when he hung up, he turned to Winona.
"Nona, something's come up at home. I can't go in. Will you be alright on your own?"
He looked genuinely concerned, worried she might feel awkward by herself.
Winona gave him a calm, reassuring smile, replying, "I'll be fine, don't worry."
Before she turned sixteen, she'd been the pampered daughter of a real estate tycoon—back when property was king and her family was riding high. She had attended more galas, auctions, and annual banquets than she could possibly remember.
This kind of scene was nothing new to her.
After signing in, Winona headed to the champagne bar, requested a glass, and wandered through the crowd, eyes scanning for any of the investors Wesley had mentioned.
But there, before she could spot a single potential investor, was the last couple she expected to see: Julian and Felicity, seated together on a sofa directly in her path.
