She shot Winona a contemptuous glance out of the corner of her eye.
"I'm the chief engineer on this project! I'm Julian's girlfriend—his fiancée, for God's sake! So what if I speak up? Without me, this project would barely get off the ground. But what about her? She's just Mr. Prescott's mistress, completely useless to the project. Are we really supposed to discuss business while someone's mistress sits at the table? Is that what Mr. Quigley and Mr. Shaw want?"
"Miss Shepherd! You're well aware this is a professional meeting. Yet you're the only one throwing around the word 'mistress' and calling Nona names. Are you acting like this just because Mr. Nicholson's backing you up? If you're so bold thanks to Mr. Nicholson's support, then who are you, really?" Wesley, who'd never crossed her before, suddenly spoke up, his tone sharp.
No sooner had Wesley finished, than Zachary chimed in, "Miss Shepherd, if you keep running your mouth, I won't be so polite next time!"
Felicity fell silent.
It suddenly dawned on her—Yves Prescott, Wesley, and Zachary were all firmly in Winona's corner.
A wave of panic washed over Felicity, stronger than before.
She felt utterly cornered.
The atmosphere was incredibly awkward.
Yet even now, she shot Winona another disdainful look before seating herself beside Julian.
"Mr. Nicholson," Wesley said, his voice steely, "if you're not willing to work with us, then we'll see you at the auction. No matter the cost, we won't let you walk away with that land."
Julian hesitated. Though he was the principal investor, he had countless partners—both domestic and international, from all over Port City—and billions in assets at stake. It wasn't his place to inflate the price of the land out of spite.
He was a businessman; he couldn't let personal grudges or feelings cloud his judgment.
"When it comes to this project, personal matters have to take a back seat," he said, frowning. "Fine! But this applies only to this parcel of land. If you can't provide any technical support relevant to the project, you'll withdraw voluntarily. We'll go by the contract."
That was exactly what Felicity had hoped for.
This way, no one would drive up the price needlessly.
The two of them walked shoulder to shoulder to the edge of the site, while the others watched from a distance.
No one knew what they were talking about, but before long, people saw the two of them come to blows.
Punches and kicks flew, each man fighting with raw ferocity.
By the time the others rushed over, both Julian and Yves were covered in blood.
Still, neither stopped. Their fistfight raged on, leaving everyone frozen in shock.
Even Felicity was too stunned to react.
Only Winona ran between them, raising her hands and yelling in fury, "Enough! Stop it—both of you!"
