The Billionaire Ex-Wife and the Beggar He Became novel Chapter 220

Xander had no choice but to let the graduate student next to him answer his phone.

"Hello, is this Miss Shepherd?" The student asked politely.

"Who are you? I need to speak to Xander!" Felicity's anxious voice snapped back.

"Miss Shepherd, Dr. McCarthy has already entered the sterile room. He's about to begin surgery and can't take calls right now. I'm his research assistant, and I need to head in myself."

"Wasn't he supposed to be at the clinic today?" Felicity pressed.

"There's been an emergency surgery scheduled."

Felicity was speechless.

She wanted to throw her phone across the room.

Just then, Frank's call came through.

The moment she picked up, Felicity broke down, sobbing, "Mr. Frank, I—I can't—"

"Shepherd, what's wrong?" Frank's voice was full of concern. "I just got to The Nicholson Group offices, and I thought I saw you leaving in the elevator. Was that you?"

"It was me, Mr. Frank," Felicity managed between sobs.

"Why did you come all the way here, only to leave right away? Did something happen? Did you and Julian have a fight?" Frank asked gently.

"That woman… she came to the office today, Julian invited her, and he was just so—" Felicity choked on her words, unable to finish as fresh tears spilled down her cheeks.

Frank's heart ached for her.

"Don't be upset, sweetheart. Pull yourself together, okay? I promise you, this will blow over soon," Frank soothed her, his voice gentle but resolute.

"Thank you, Mr. Frank."

"I'll hang up now and see for myself what Julian thinks he's doing," Frank said, then ended the call and strode purposefully toward Julian's office.

But to Julian, her words stung more than any insult.

Had he completely lost his mind that day? Had he really treated his own wife, his son, her grandmother, and her sister so ruthlessly?

"I'm sorry—"

"Save it."

Winona didn't look back, her voice calm and steady. "I wish you, Felicity, and Tiana all the happiness in the world. From now on, we're even. I'll see you in court."

With that, she pulled open the door and walked out.

Only to run straight into Frank.

Frank grabbed her arm, his voice booming, "You! How dare you keep sabotaging Shepherd's happiness! Marching in here to confront Mr. Nicholson in broad daylight—have you no shame?"
