The Billionaire Ex-Wife and the Beggar He Became novel Chapter 282

The lawyer knew that the moment he walked out of this courtroom, he would be submitting his resignation to Mr. Nicholson. Since his career here was over, there was no point in saying anything more. Whatever Mr. Nicholson wanted to do was his own business.

Julian gave a slight nod, consenting.

He had to. If he didn't, Winona would hate him for the rest of his life. Besides, a man had to take responsibility for his mistakes.

It wasn't right to let a woman bear the consequences, especially not the woman who had once saved his life.

"Thank you," Winona said, turning to him for a brief moment.

The judge ordered the live stream to begin and gestured for Winona to proceed.

Flanked by her grandmother, Mia, Wesley, Mr. Zachary Shaw, Yves Prescott, and her lawyer Louis, Winona appeared calm and composed. When she spoke of the past, the raw emotion was gone, replaced by the detached tone of someone telling a story.

But even the judge, who heard tragic stories every day, could detect the profound sorrow in her voice.

"I saved Julian's life with my own body, and I did it because I loved him," she began. "I knew he didn't love me back, but I hoped my love could eventually warm his heart and give my children and me a complete family. But years passed, and his heart remained cold."

"During all that time, I never spent a single cent of my husband's money. When the children were small, I earned a little extra by taking on some of the housekeepers' chores—washing clothes, cooking. It was a pittance, maybe a couple hundred dollars a month. I stretched that to support us for six months."

"When my children were about a year old, I had more time and started submitting design concepts to Bunny Abode Interior Design. From then on, my financial situation, and my ability to provide for my two children, began to improve."

"Ju... Julian... Julian Nicholson of The Nicholson Group."

Her friend's lemonade slipped from her hand and splattered on the pavement.

Meanwhile, at the hospital where Frank was recovering, Felicity sat by his bedside, chatting with him after he'd finished with his IV. Julian had sent her away from the courthouse, and feeling disheartened, she decided to visit Frank instead of going to the construction site. She could feel that Frank genuinely cared for her, treating her like his own daughter. She wasn't sure how she'd gotten so lucky, but she was determined to be as devoted to him as a real daughter would be, hoping his affection would never waver.

After tidying up some trash and fruit peels by his window, she returned and said, "Mr. Frank, Julian and I have reconciled. I've forgiven him for how he's treated Winona. After all, between them, there's..."

"They... they... they're actually married!" Frank stared at his phone screen, his eyes wide with disbelief, as if he'd seen a ghost.
