The Billionaire Ex-Wife and the Beggar He Became novel Chapter 289

"Wish us all the best? You think you have the right?" Shera sneered at Winona. "You think this little live stream stunt of yours is going to hurt The Nicholson Group? This divorce is just a footnote, Julian's personal business. The fact that he agreed to stream it proves it won't affect the company one bit. You can wipe that smug look off your face, Miss Perkins!"

Winona's voice was flat. "It seems your son has made a full recovery, Miss Nicholson. Otherwise, I doubt you'd have the time to be so arrogant here."

"You..." Shera trembled with rage. "Are you cursing my son?"

"Hey, you old hag who can't even find a husband! Which one of your ears heard my Queen Nona curse your son, huh? I'm asking you, which ear?" Mia Summers stepped in front of Winona, ready to pounce on Shera.

Mia had already made up her mind. If Shera laid a hand on them, she would rip out Julian's hair and then bite off Shera's ear. She despised Felicity, but she hated Shera just as much. That woman had taken Nona's blood time and again without a shred of gratitude. Mia had been waiting for a chance to rearrange her face.

Faced with Mia's wild, unhinged energy, Shera was powerless. She was so furious she couldn't speak and stormed off.

"Haha! Run away, you pathetic loser!" Mia's triumphant crowing was just as loud as Shera's earlier taunts.

Winona couldn't watch anymore. "Mia! That's embarrassing! You sound like a petty nouveau riche, you know that?"

Mia turned to Winona, her eyes suddenly welling up with tears. "Winnie... we got Grandma's statue back?"

"We got it," Winona said, rolling her eyes.

"And... my wedding fund?" Mia asked.

"Of course! And it's a hefty one. How much do you want? As long as it's under a billion, I think I can cover it," Winona said, looking at Mia not like an older sister, but like a child she needed to take care of.

Behind them stood Yves Prescott, Wesley Quigley, and Zachary Shaw. Wesley knew Winona best. He'd known her since she was a university student working in the cafeteria. He knew her intelligence, her talent, and her incredible willpower. He was the least surprised by her performance in court today, where she had completely blindsided the Nicholson family.

He walked up to her. "Nona, you don't have to be afraid anymore. Even if your project doesn't succeed, this money is more than enough to ensure your family lives comfortably."

"Thank you, Wesley," Winona said, looking gratefully at her friend of nearly a decade. "Everyone else says I'm ruthless. You're the only one who doesn't."

"Mr. Shaw doesn't think you're ruthless either, Nona. In fact, he's very impressed," Zachary spoke up from behind them.

Winona was surprised. "Mr. Shaw, thank you for understanding. I thought..."

"You did the right thing," Zachary said, his tone sincere. "You have no one to rely on, no powerful backing. You're just a twenty-six-year-old woman with three non-blood relatives to care for. What you did today was remarkable. Otherwise, all four of you would have been left with nothing. Your courage is far more impressive than Felicity's. You are the most admirable person I've ever known."
