"I even offered to be his mistress! That way, I could repay my debt to him, and Zane could have a father figure. But he refused!" Winona thought.
"Mia, do you want your wedding fund or not?" Winona snapped.
Mia immediately clamped a hand over her mouth, looking both terrified and pitiful. She stayed silent for a full ten minutes, and even Helga was too scared to speak.
Winona sighed. "Our family does need a man," she said, her voice calm but firm. "But I want us to be strong enough to stand on our own, without having to bow to anyone. Didn't I prove today that I can make our grandmother proud all by myself? Things will only get better from here."
"I'm with you, Winnie!" Mia said.
"I'm with my granddaughter, too!" her grandmother added.
"The four of us will stick together, and we'll be stronger than ever."
"Alright, let's go pick up Zane and celebrate!" Winona's tone lightened.
"Yay!" Mia grabbed their grandmother's hand and high-fived her.
While Winona was celebrating, Felicity was living a nightmare. After waiting outside the emergency room for hours, a doctor finally emerged, but Frank did not.
"Doctor, how is Mr. Frank?" Felicity asked anxiously.
"If his condition stabilizes within the next forty-eight hours, he won't need a heart transplant. If not, you need to be prepared for that possibility."
Felicity's heart sank. "But with a transplant, he'll be okay for a while, right?"
Lost in sweet daydreams, she was just a few feet from her car when a mob of people suddenly swarmed her. They were armed with eggs, rotten vegetables, and at the front, a woman with a wild look in her eyes holding a newspaper filled with dog feces.
They descended on Felicity, pelting her from all sides.
"A face full of shit for the homewrecker! You ruined the wife's life! I could kill you!"
"You owe Miss Perkins a billion dollars, you bitch! You'd better pay it back, with interest, or we'll hunt you down!"
"Whore! You're such a good actress! You bring shame to all women! Why don't you just die?"
Covered in dog shit, eggs, and rotting vegetables, Felicity was completely bewildered. "What... homewrecker? I owe who a billion dollars?"
