Yves's offer left all four of them stunned.
*He* was offering to cook? He actually *knew* how to cook?
He took off his coat and suit jacket, leaving him in a crisp white shirt. Tying an apron around his waist, he looked at the three women and one boy. "Go on, relax in the living room. I'll call you when dinner's ready."
They all nodded mechanically, saying in unison, "Okay."
As they sat in the living room, they kept peeking toward the kitchen, where the tall, powerful man was moving about with an easy, methodical grace.
Mia leaned over and whispered to Winona, "You know, I'm discovering this guy isn't just a force to be reckoned with out in the world. He's also charming, handsome, and knows his way around a kitchen."
Winona was genuinely impressed. She went to the kitchen doorway to watch him.
Yves turned and gave her a warm smile. "Don't stand there, you'll get smoke on you. Go rest in the living room."
Winona froze for a second. Was this real, or was she dreaming?
During her years with the Nicholson family, she had always been the one to do the cooking. Though they were just simple home-cooked meals, she had perfected them to suit Julian and Tiana's tastes. None of the four maids Julian employed could cook as well as she could. Even so, Julian had never once complimented her. At most, if she asked, "Is it to your liking?" he would just nod. Not even a verbal answer.
And the idea of him cooking a meal for her? Unthinkable.
The contrast between that life and the sight of Yves in her kitchen now was staggering.
An hour and a half later, all the exotic seafood Mia had bought was transformed into a magnificent feast and set on the table.
Mia looked at Yves with pure admiration. "Mr. Prescott, you're the head of a prestigious family and in charge of the entire Prescott Group. How did you learn to cook like this?"
Zane, being a sensible and considerate child, immediately understood. Even though he wished Yves could stay longer, he said politely, "Okay, Mommy. Goodbye, Dad Prescott."
Yves stood up and said his goodbyes to Zane, Helga, and Mia.
Winona walked him out. As they headed toward his car, she asked, "Why?"
"Why what?" Yves asked with a faint smile.
"Why are you doing all this? Cooking in my home, being so kind to my grandmother, my sister, and Zane. I want to know why you're so… interested in me."
Before he could answer, she continued, "My actions during the divorce were certainly shocking. A lot of people praised me for being bold. But I don't think that's enough of a reason for you to be interested."
