Before Teague could respond, the man continued, "Mr. Shepherd, if you ask me, you really underestimated Mr. Prescott. Two months ago, he announced that he was going to squeeze the Shepherd family from all sides. He's not one to make idle threats. A month ago, outside Mr. Frank's ICU, CEO Prescott even told your son, Mr. Jason Shepherd, that he had already begun to dismantle the Shepherd family. Why didn't you take him seriously?"
Teague shot back, "I have no business or financial dealings with Yves Prescott! How could he possibly pressure me? Is he just going to rob me in broad daylight? That's illegal!"
"You may not have direct dealings with CEO Prescott, but you do have dealings with several foreign banks, don't you? I'm afraid Mr. Prescott happens to be a shareholder in those very banks. This is also your own fault for being too greedy. You thought the senior living project belonged to your future son-in-law, so you bid on over a dozen contracts… You were a snake trying to swallow an elephant, Mr. Shepherd."
Teague was speechless.
"Mr. Shepherd, if you can clear your debts with those foreign banks by the end of today, you can stay in your home. You will remain the head of Shepherd Construction, and your projects can continue. If you cannot settle those debts by today, then I'm sorry, but you will have to move out now."
"And if I don't move?" Teague growled, glaring at the burly man. "You have no right to kick me out!"
"I don't have the right, but Mr. Prescott has bought this entire mountain. He plans to start demolition tonight…"
The man's smile was polite, but in Teague's eyes, it was sinister and terrifying. He suddenly realized that they might truly have to leave this house.
But where would they go? His parents were in their seventies; they couldn't handle such a upheaval.
