"It's just that the old woman has suffered so much. This one wish is all she's ever had…"
Winona shook her head. "The old couple already kneeled before her and let her vent her anger. My grandmother may be illiterate, but she isn't stupid; she understands the bigger picture. If Julian pays off their debts now, won't that make their downfall after the new year all the more spectacular?"
Yves's face broke into a grin. "You're the brilliant one."
"Go on, get home. Goodnight," Winona said.
"Goodnight." Yves raised his hand, his long fingers gently cupping the back of her head as he leaned in to place a soft kiss on her forehead. "I wish you a triumphant victory."
Then he turned and left. Winona took Zane's hand and they went upstairs.
That night, she slept soundly and woke up feeling refreshed. After breakfast, she drove out with Mia and Zane, first dropping Zane at kindergarten before heading to the design firm with Mia. She spent the entire morning in a year-end review meeting with Yves Prescott, Zachary Shaw, Wesley Quigley, and the other investors.
When the meeting concluded, the room was buzzing with optimism and drive. Zachary, in particular, looked at Winona with the affectionate pride of a father. "Nona, at this rate, once construction resumes after the new year, the Nicholson Group is going to be…"
Winona's expression remained calm. "Exactly."
Even though they had been married for six years, Julian and Felicity had to face the consequences of stealing her work. Whether they could bear it or not was irrelevant.
"Fantastic!" Zachary clapped his hands. "Nona, I can already see the day you finally get the recognition you deserve."
