After escaping, Old Mrs. Shepherd had gone looking for Winona's grandmother at her apartment complex. She spotted her at a small farmer's market just outside the main gate.
Seizing a moment when Helga wasn't paying attention, Old Mrs. Shepherd shoved her hard from behind.
Helga fell backward, the back of her head striking the ground and causing a cerebral hemorrhage that left her unconscious on the spot. Fortunately, she was rushed to the hospital quickly. The emergency team acted fast, clearing the hematoma in her brain, and she was expected to wake up without any lasting damage. After a few more days of observation, she would be stable enough to go home.
Winona had gone straight to the hospital from the airport. Her phone had died, and she hadn't even had a chance to look at the inheritance contract the caretaker had given her. Her entire focus was on her grandmother. That was why, back in Italy, Xander couldn't get through to her no matter how many times he called.
Meanwhile, Felicity spent three fruitless days in Italy searching for the design firm. It was as if the company had vanished into thin air. Without the original architect, how could she possibly solve the engineering crisis? She was frantic with worry.
Then, a call from her mother, Henrietta, brought a piece of good news. Frank had been moved from the ICU to a regular room. His heart transplant had been a complete success. Soon, he would be living like a normal person again.
And that meant she was one step closer to inheriting his billions, wasn't it?
Felicity called him herself. "Mr. Frank, you must eat well and take care of yourself. Eat plenty of nutritious food to build up your strength. I'm on a business trip in Italy right now, but I'll come see you the moment I get back. And when you're well enough to use a wheelchair, I'd be honored if you would be the witness at my wedding to Julian. What do you say?"
Frank's voice was weak, but his tone was pleased. "Of course." He sounded tired. "Shepherd, my energy is low. Let's hang up for now. I'll wait for you to return from Italy."
"Goodbye, Mr. Frank."
"Of course, Mr. Frank."
"One more thing. Shepherd is in Italy right now. Did she… did she happen to visit Irene's grave to pay her respects?" Frank asked.
Ken's voice brightened. "She did! She did! The moment Miss Shepherd landed, the very first thing she did was come to Ms. Chase's grave. She's such a loyal and sentimental person. Ms. Chase certainly chose well, Mr. Frank!"
"That sets my mind at ease," Frank said. "You can give the inheritance contract to Miss Shepherd now."
"Mr. Frank, you were missing for two months! I thought you weren't coming back, so I've already given the contract to her. As soon as Miss Shepherd agrees, she will become the heir to the Chase family's trillion-dollar estate in our home country!" Ken reported dutifully.
