Frank smiled. "What did you expect? My Mario family's assets are nothing compared to this. The Chase family's assets in this country alone are worth over a trillion."
Winona was speechless. It felt like a dream. She pinched herself. It hurt. She couldn't believe she had become a trillionaire overnight.
She murmured, "Mr. Frank, you and... Ms. Chase were so wealthy. Why didn't you have children...?"
"Irene and I were both sick," Frank said honestly. "We met in a hospital. We both had the same heart condition and never knew how long we had left. That's why we never dared to have children, not even to adopt. We were afraid that if we both passed away, the child would be left alone. Irene and I supported each other out of love and managed to live for over thirty years together, which was a good outcome for us."
"Irene was incredibly grateful to you for that. She was a heart patient who had also contracted an infectious disease. If not for your meticulous care, she wouldn't have lived those extra ten years. For people with serious illnesses like us, ten years is a precious gift. You gave that to her."
"When Irene came to this country, she was looking for an heir. But the people she met were conniving and tried to cheat her for a small profit. How could she entrust a multi-generational family fortune to people like that?"
"So, child, you were the perfect choice."
"Frank..."
"Call me Uncle. I'd like to hear it. Even though I hurt you in the past, I'm selfish enough to hope you'll call me Uncle," Frank said, his voice choking with emotion as he looked at Winona humbly.
Winona was silent.
Frank had wronged her in many ways, but it was all in an attempt to help the person he thought was her—Felicity. Even when he had her kidnapped, it was to take her to a villa in Italy. He was constantly trying to compensate her. The disrespectful things he said about her grandmother were due to Felicity's manipulations. All things considered, Frank himself was not a bad person.
And now, he was giving her a fortune worth trillions. That was a blessing that could span lifetimes. Calling him 'Uncle' was a small price to pay.
Winona bowed her head respectfully. "Mr. Frank, let's put all the unpleasantness between us in the past. For the rest of your life, I will do everything in my power to take care of you."
"Oh, Nona..." Frank's voice broke again.
Without comparison, one can never truly understand. He had known Felicity for six months, and she had never once said, "I will do everything in my power to take care of you." But Winona had.
"The hospital director was..."
"James Yardley."
Winona could answer so fluidly because she had stayed in that hospital for many days without being kicked out. The director and head nurse knew her situation and had even offered her a long-term job as a caregiver. She would never forget their names.
"The content of the email Irene sent you was..."
Winona couldn't remember that offhand. She opened her phone, logged into her email, and showed the message to Frank.
Seeing the email his late wife had sent Winona, Frank's eyes filled with tears. "It's you. No doubt about it! Nona."
After all the paperwork was completed, the lawyer said with a sigh of relief, "Even if Miss Perkins hadn't appeared today, Felicity would never have passed this stage. The flash drive and the password would have exposed her. A fake is a fake; it can never become real."
