"That makes us three!"
"Eh?" Lola blinked, darting her eyes between Slater and Penny. When her gaze landed on Atlas, all she saw were the twins jumping down from their seats.
"Mommy, we’ll just wash," Second hummed. "We already packed our things for our honeymoon."
"I’m so excited for our honeymoon~" Chacha sang, skipping beside Second. "Second, what do you think we’ll do on our honeymoon with Mommy?"
"I signed her up for a triathlon," Second beamed proudly, the air around him practically sparkling. "I also signed up Uncle Haji for the ultra challenge."
Lola’s face twitched. She could already imagine Haji’s expression once he found out. But that wasn’t the issue right now.
Turning back to the group, Lola forced a smile.
"You guys..." She exhaled shallowly, laughing it off as she waved a hand. "That’s not what I meant. I meant it’s like my second life — you know, with Vito and the underground."
"Ohh..." Penny and Slater’s mouths formed identical O-shapes as they nodded in sync. "That’s what you meant."
"Anyway," Lola said, smiling awkwardly. "What do you guys mean by ’that makes us three’?"
This time, Penny and Slater didn’t answer immediately. They looked like they were choking.
"I didn’t know you two had some sort of life-and-death situation," she added, arching a brow.
At that, both of them laughed nervously, looking away.
"Actually," Penny began while scratching her cheek with her index finger, "my life was horrible until I met my husband — it’s basically my second life! Besides, I did mention I used to live in a lab. Doing rocket science sometimes leads to dangerous situations... especially chemical reactions."
"Me too!" Slater raised his hand dramatically, earning a suspicious look from Lola. "I mean, every day is a battle for me. Don’t you guys follow my social media? The life of a celebrity is dangerous — too many crazy fans out there."
Yet all he got was a pair of unimpressed looks from the women.
Crazy fans? Truth be told, everyone knew Slater was far crazier than any of them. Even the paparazzi had long given up on him, leaving him to his own chaos. Then again, no one dared to mess with him — not when he came from this family.
"I see." Lola decided not to question it and cleared her throat. "Well, that’s what I meant, too."
"Us too—hehe!" the duo laughed, suddenly acting like they hadn’t been trying to kill each other over snacks a few minutes ago.
But then, Atlas spoke coldly. "They’re lying."
His words froze the entire room.
Lola turned to him with furrowed brows. "Excuse me?"
"They’re lying," he repeated evenly, pointing at Penny. "In her first life, she was a convict. And Slater? A fallen star whose only outstanding quality is his face."
Penny and Slater immediately wrinkled their noses and glared at him.
Atlas ignored their protests and continued, his eyes fixed on Lola. "You don’t have to worry about that. It’s not news to us. And it’s not just the three of you, Slater — it’s four. Don’t forget about Finn."
He spoke so casually, it almost sounded like he was listing grocery items. "Anyway, if you’re truly fine, Penny brought the DNA test results regarding you and the twins. No one could’ve tampered with them. She supervised everything personally."
For a second, the room fell utterly silent. Penny, Slater, and Lola just stared at him in disbelief.
Even his siblings — who’d grown up with him — were speechless.
