When the vehicle pulled up to the grand palace, Lola raised her brows, staring at the vast lawn. Lights hung from the bushes and trees, casting everything in a soft glow. There was also a fountain in the middle of the driveway near this grand mansion. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
"I didn’t know there was a place like this in the city," she murmured in amusement. Surely, whoever was throwing this party was just as wealthy as the Bennet family.
She spotted several vintage cars parked in the area, along with modern luxury cars. Together, they added charm and prestige to the entire scene.
"This is real class," she breathed, snapping out of her awe just as their vehicle came to a stop.
Without a word, they climbed out. But the moment Lola stepped out and glanced across the roof of the car, Penny suddenly perked up.
"Ah, sis!" Penny raised her phone, showing the screen. "Patricia—my assistant—is calling me. I’ll just take this call first. Must be important. She only calls when it’s serious!"
Before Lola could respond, Penny rushed off, already answering the call. Lola blinked, tilting her head.
"Patricia?" she whispered, remembering their past conversations. "Didn’t she say that’s the name of her least important assistant?"
Before she could dwell on it, Nina—who had exited the passenger seat—turned to her.
"First Sister, Finn just messaged me." Nina smiled. "He said he’s in the pavilion. I’ll go meet him first."
"Ok—" But Nina was already gone. "—ay...?"
Deep lines formed on Lola’s forehead as she stared after Nina. They had been chatting casually the entire ride here. No hint of urgency... until now.
As Lola stood distracted, Kiara silently pondered.
I forgot to create an alibi, she thought, about to pull out her phone when a pair of hands suddenly covered her eyes from behind.
Kiara froze.
Lola turned to where Kiara stood. There, a tall man wearing a simple shirt and blazer covered Kiara’s eyes, grinning from ear to ear.
"That’s..." Lola squinted, quickly recognizing him.
Hugo Bennet. Atlas’s second brother and Kiara’s husband.
He giggled quietly, puckering his lips slightly as if signaling Lola to stay quiet before turning his attention back to the woman in his arms.
Kiara slowly reached up, touching his hands. Lola could’ve sworn she saw Kiara’s lips tremble before she bit them.
"I can smell you," Kiara muttered, swallowing hard as she removed his hands. When she turned around, her eyes softened, relief flooding her instantly.
Her mouth parted, but before she could speak, she threw her arms around him and lifted her feet off the ground.
"You’re back!"
"Haha!" Hugo laughed, wrapping his arms around her waist and lifting her slightly as he leaned back. "Ah... I missed my wife so much! And thank God I’m not divorced yet!"
"You should be thankful!" Kiara huffed, slapping his back and trying to hide her emotions. "I was one day away from filing for our divorce! How could you not call me!? Do you know how worried I was?! Gosh—you!"
Hugo only laughed, letting her hit him while keeping his arms tightly around her.
Lola’s eyes softened. The fierce, composed Kiara from earlier melted the moment Hugo appeared.
I guess... she was just trying her best not to break from worry, Lola thought quietly.
"Ah!" Kiara snapped out of it, realizing Lola was there. She slowly released her husband and turned. "First Sister, this is my husband."
Hugo saluted playfully. "Hello, First Sister. Nice to meet you—ah!"
Both Kiara and Lola jerked when he suddenly screamed, pointing at Lola as if she’d committed a crime. He only stopped when Kiara smacked his back.
"Why would you scream like that?" Kiara clicked her tongue. "You’re going to give me a heart attack."
"Darling, I think the coffee is going to give you a heart attack. You need less caffeine," he retorted, then turned back to Lola. "You... have we met before?"
"She went to Summit School of Excellence. Maybe you did," Kiara said casually.
Hugo’s mouth formed an O.
