The Billionaire Twins Need A New Mommy! novel Chapter 509

Chapter 509: Just A Bit Of The Good Old Days

"What’s going on over there?"

Lola’s voice cut through the mild chaos in the area, distracting both Haji and Slater mid-conversation. Even the twins — who had been completely absorbed in their cats — froze and turned toward where Lola was looking. Their little brows furrowed in confusion, and they tilted their heads to the side in unison like curious ducklings.

On the opposite side of the garden, groups of people — at least two clusters, each with no fewer than five members — were heading in the same direction with hurried strides.

The Zorken Manor was enormous, enough to give Atlas and his family as much privacy as possible despite the constant security presence. Guards from different circles kept a perimeter around the entire estate. Still, they stayed far enough not to intrude on their family life. Only Izu’s team remained close to the family’s wing, which was why Lola could walk freely without feeling scrutinized.

"Is something going on?" Lola wondered aloud, shifting her gaze from the gathering commotion to Haji and then to Slater. "Slater, stay with my kids. I’ll check what’s going on."

"But—"

"Kids, Mommy’s going back to her study," Lola interrupted, placing a hand on each twin’s head to get their attention. "If you get bored, you can come to me, alright?"

"Okay~!" Chacha and Second chorused, smiling up at her with those bright and innocent eyes that could soften the deadliest assassin.

She smiled back, then gave Slater a brief but firm look before turning her attention to Haji. "Haji, come with me."

Haji didn’t complain — at least not verbally. He lifted his hands in the air in defeat and pushed himself up. The moment his feet were planted firmly, he stretched his aching hips.

"Dang," he grunted. "My body’s sore like... perpetually."

The triathlon trauma was clearly still stored in his muscles, and the daily intense training.

Even so, he dragged himself into motion and followed her.

Slater, meanwhile, watched the two walk away. His mouth formed a long, displeased pout.

"She always leaves me behind," he muttered dramatically under his breath, arms folding across his chest. "Does she think I’m some sort of designated babysitter?"

His complaint fell on deaf ears. The twins, blissfully unaware of his existential crisis, went right back to petting their cats. Chunchun purred loudly from Chacha’s lap while Renny released a huge, theatrical yawn as if bored by the adults.

Slater quietly observed them for a few seconds. His expression slowly changed, his annoyance melting into curiosity and then transforming into mischief.

He crouched down before the twins, resting his elbows on his knees.

"Kids," he said as he watched their big, round eyes turn to him once more.

They blinked in perfect sync, witnessing Slater’s grin widen.

"Haji, go check what’s going on over there," Lola instructed calmly, holding her notes and books against her chest as she walked with purpose. "Tell me if anything is worth knowing."

Haji blinked at her, deep creases wrinkling his forehead. "I thought we were going to check "together?" Where the hell are you going then?"

"Back to my study."

"But didn’t you say you were going to see what’s happening?"

"They don’t like me."

His feet stopped mid-stride. "... So you do know no one in here likes you, huh?"

Lola paused, turning slightly to look him in the eye. "Is that a surprise to you, Haji?" She smirked. "You used to dislike me too, didn’t you?"

He didn’t have to respond. They both knew the answer.

Lola clicked her tongue and wiggled her brows playfully. "Not my first time being disliked. It reminds me of the past."

Back then, the reason was much harsher. Because she was weak, useless. Because she slowed everyone down, and she was a liability.

The memory alone made her chuckle, though it held more pain than she’d ever admit.

"Good old times, Haji," she sang lightly as she resumed walking. "Just let me know if something interesting happens."

Haji remained rooted to the ground for a moment, watching her retreating figure with a shallow laugh pushing at his lips.

"Good old times," he muttered, shaking his head as he turned toward the direction of the gathering people. "Well... I did dislike her back then."

Inside the old training gym, Haji glared at Lola as she wheezed and panted, punching a sandbag like it had personally ruined her life. Her hair was tied into a bun with stray strands sticking to her sweat-soaked cheeks. Sweat dripped from her elbows and splattered onto the floor. Her arms trembled every time she threw a punch.
