He remained silent in response to her words, his attention drawn once more to her injured hand, the wound still raw and angry against her pale skin.
“I guess you found out,” he finally broke the stillness, his voice low and measured after a few moments that felt like an eternity.
Tracy let out a soft scoff, a sound that was almost bitter.
“Found out? I watched her shoot a man’s brain out without a flicker of emotion in her eyes,” she replied, her tone laced with disbelief and a hint of anger.
As he delicately applied iodine to her wound, Thane blew air gently over it, a futile attempt to ease her discomfort. Tracy winced, a sharp hiss escaping her lips as the antiseptic stung her skin.
“Turns out my brother and his best friend do the same,” she added, her voice tinged with a mix of resignation and anger.
“Hmm,” Thane murmured, his brow furrowing slightly as he began to wrap her hand, the fabric clinging to her skin like a second layer.
“How many have you killed?” she probed, her curiosity getting the better of her.
“I lost count years ago,” Thane admitted, his gaze drifting momentarily as he recalled the shadows of his past. When he looked back at her, there was a flicker of something deep in his eyes—something that spoke of burdens carried for far too long.
