The Broken-hearted She And The Icy He (Lily and John) novel Chapter 641

Chapter 641: An Incurable Madness

“Mergan, will you only find happiness once you’ve driven Lily to her death?” The question hung heavy in the air, sharp and accusing.

Would I truly be content only if I pushed her over the edge? The thought struck Mergan like a blow, causing his body to tense and his pupils to shrink in sudden pain.

His love for her was profound, almost suffocating. All he ever wanted was to offer her everything—his world, his heart, his unwavering presence. Yet now, a terrifying doubt gnawed at him: was he, in fact, the one leading her straight to ruin? To the grave?

He refused to accept that grim possibility. “I’m not the one pushing her toward death,” he whispered to himself, voice barely audible. “I’ll treat her better than James ever did… Lily always counted on me. She once told me I was the best brother she could ever have. She cared about me deeply. If I’m the only one left for her, eventually she’ll come to love me. She’ll care only for me…”

“Mergan, you are hopelessly insane!” Taylor’s voice cracked with fury as he delivered another harsh kick.

“She depended on you as a brother! After everything we’ve done to hurt her, we don’t even deserve that title anymore.” Taylor’s eyes burned with anger. “How dare you try to crush her happiness and strip away her freedom? We’ve made too many mistakes already. We can’t keep breaking her like this. If you truly want to make amends, if you want to do right by her, then send her back to James safely. Give them your genuine blessing and never interfere again!”

“I will never wish them well,” Mergan spat, the words tasting bitter on his tongue.

His face drained of color, the weight of their words sinking deep into his soul.

He knew Bodger and Taylor were speaking the truth.

He had failed Lily time and again, made too many errors to count. He shouldn’t be making things worse—shouldn’t be dragging her down with him.

Yet the mere thought of letting her go hollowed him out completely. It was as if his heart had been trapped in a cage, clawing desperately for any escape, any chance to hold on.

“You’re a monster!” Bodger’s voice was cold and cutting as he knocked Mergan to the ground. “Look at all the so-called ‘good’ you’ve done over the years. What right do you have to withhold your blessing from Lily and James? You want to be with her? Do you even deserve her?”

“You don’t! If I were Lily, held captive by the one I hated most, I would never learn to love him. I would only want him gone. I’d make sure he paid, even if it meant we both fell together!”

Mergan said nothing. He closed his eyes tightly, pain radiating through him.

He didn’t want destruction for either of them.

He didn’t care about his own fate, but the idea of Lily suffering—being hurt, broken, or worse—was unbearable.

“Bodger, Taylor.”

Lily’s hatred for Mergan was fierce and unmistakable. She despised Bodger and Taylor as well, their presence only stirring more resentment.

Though she loathed them all, her desperation for news about James outweighed her feelings. Her voice trembled as she spoke, fragile and uncertain. “I saw the video… James… he cut his wrists. He… he was saved, right? He’s still alive?”
