He was desperate to see Lily. Unable to wait another second, he turned and stumbled out of the living room.
Having finally reunited with Lily, James wanted nothing more than to be sweet and affectionate with her. But the moment they returned to the Luke family manor, Grace and Nancy grabbed her hands and wouldn’t let go, leaving James with no opportunity to even get close.
Completely ignored by Lily, he felt rather displeased.
He took a step forward, about to announce that Lily needed to rest and that he was taking her to their room, when the living room doors burst open. Zoey, Mary, and the others rushed in.
“Lily…”
Seeing Lily sitting in the middle of the sofa, Zoey and Mary’s eyes both reddened.
Grace was still holding Lily’s hand, but after one glare from Zoey, she reluctantly scooted over to make a little room.
Zoey promptly squeezed in, pushing Grace aside, and grabbed Lily’s hand, her eyes brimming with tears. “You poor child, you’ve suffered. You weren’t very big to begin with, how did you get even thinner?”
Mary also thought Lily looked thinner.
However, she didn’t comment on it, just taking Lily’s other hand and repeating, “It’s good you’re back, it’s good you’re back…”
Thinking of how Lily had encouraged and helped Simon through those terrible days in the ruins, and how her own foolish son had chosen to save Elsa at the cliff, Mary was overcome with guilt.
She opened her mouth, about to apologize on her son’s behalf, when Simon himself burst into the living room like a gust of wind.
His eyes were already rimmed with red, but upon seeing Lily, they became so bloodshot it looked as though they might bleed.
The two words seemed to cost him all the strength he possessed. His lips moved several times before he finally managed to call out her name in a trembling voice, “Lizzy…”
Hearing Simon call her Lizzy, Lily froze for a moment.
Back at the cliff, she had learned that Simon was the boy who had clung to life with her in the ruins.
Although they had only spent two days together, they had shared a life–and–death experience, and she had treasured that bond. She had even thought of him as a real brother. For all these years, she had looked forward to finding that boy again. She had imagined their reunion countless times.
