**TITLE: My Wife 688**
**CONTENT: Chapter 688 No Debt of Gratitude**
And so, the years had slipped by, and she had never set foot in that house again, never once seeking out Yolanda. It was a choice made from the depths of her heart, a decision rooted in the desire to shield the next generation from the bitterness that had tainted her own childhood.
Her initial gestures of kindness toward Marilyn had been fueled by a flicker of empathy. After all, Marilyn would often lament about how her brother and sister-in-law lavished their affection on their son, leaving her feeling overlooked. This resonated painfully with Holly, stirring memories of her own youth, and she found herself, on occasion, slipping a few bills into Marilyn’s hands.
But as time unfolded, the truth became painfully clear – Marilyn was a reflection of Yolanda, a mirror image of the same rotten core. The realization hit Holly like a cold wave, and she made the conscious choice to sever ties with her niece completely.
She had never anticipated that Yolanda and her entourage would consistently find new ways to deepen her disillusionment with the Lynn family.
Adeline, a mere child of ten when she had been sold, had been rescued almost immediately by Lily. The old bachelor had never had the opportunity to tarnish her innocence, so how could anyone dare label her as “unclean”? Even if something untoward had occurred, who were they to cast stones at a victim?
As Holly observed Yolanda, who was still lounging with an air of arrogance, sipping her tea and nibbling on dried fruits, a wave of indignation surged within her. In a moment fueled by years of pent-up frustration, she seized the teacup before her and, with a fierce motion, splashed its contents directly onto Yolanda’s face.
“Take your pack of animals and get out! My daughter’s marriage, and who she chooses to marry, is none of your damn business!”
Yolanda was left utterly speechless, her eyes wide with disbelief. The Holly she remembered – timid, hesitant, and afraid to even breathe in her presence – had transformed into a force of defiance, bold enough to hurl hot tea at her!
Mortification washed over Yolanda, quickly followed by a surge of rage. As she regained her composure, she threw herself onto the floor, wailing dramatically, “Ouch, murder! Someone is killing me! I toiled endlessly to raise this ungrateful girl, sacrificing everything to send her to university! If it weren’t for my sacrifices, would she be living this life of ease? That worthless girl is so unfilial! I poured my heart into her, yet she won’t even call me ‘Mom.’ Now she attacks me for the sake of an adopted daughter! I gave her life; I am her biological mother! Am I worth less than an adopted child? What a heartless wretch! May this cursed, ungrateful girl meet a terrible fate!”
“Grandma, please, don’t cry,” Adeline pleaded softly, her voice trembling with concern.
