The Cheated Mafia Husband novel Chapter 6

Chapter 6

Jeffrey stayed by Amelia’s bedside in the VIP ward until she finally

woke.

“Jeff…” Her voice was faint, trembling with the fear of someone who had barely escaped death.

He held her gently, brushing the cold sweat from her forehead with his thumb. “It’s my fault. I should have done a better job protecting you. I am sorry for what you’ve been through.”

Amelia shook her head weakly, then seemed to remember something. “Where is that lady? How is she?”

Jeffrey’s gaze darkened for a moment before he looked away. “You’re too kind. I won’t let anything happen to you again.”

He stroked her back soothingly until she drifted back until she drifted to an uneasy sleep.

Then, his expression hardened as he gave his next order. “Clean out the villa on the hillside. Throw out everything that shouldn’t be there. Amelia will be moving in once she’s discharged.”

One of his men nodded and handed him a document. “This is the compensation agreement for Ms. Leonard. As you requested, two casinos and 20 percent of the company’s shares have been transferred to her name. It’s enough for her to start her own operation.”

Jeffrey gave a short nod. “Send it to her and have her sign it.”

To him, this was already a grand gesture-an act of mercy and closure.

After eight years by his side, Geraldine should have known her place.

But a day passed, and there was no response.

He dialed her number himself, but there was no answer.

He called the butler at the villa. “Where’s Mrs. Delacruz? Hasn’t she come home?”

“Mrs. Delacruz never returned.”

A flicker of unease stirred beneath Jeffrey’s growing irritation.

Aside from staying by his side, where else in New Jersey could someone like Geraldine go?

One of his men cautiously suggested, “Mr. Delacruz, could it be that Ms. Leonard is still in the hospital? She was pretty badly hurt last time…”

Jeffrey froze for a moment, remembering that he had driven the blade through her hand just two days ago.

He pushed down the unease in his chest and ordered his men, “Find out which hospital she’s in. Bring her the papers and have her sign them.”

The subordinate took the file but was stopped before leaving.

“When you find her, leave two men to keep watch. She’s unpredictable.

“If she tries anything against Amelia, deal with her mother first. Let her suffer a little if you have to. She’ll get the message.”

That night, Jeffrey returned to the top floor of the casino.

This used to be his and Geraldine’s private haven.

Beyond the vast floor-to-ceiling windows stretched New Jersey’s most dazzling nightscape-neon lights flickering beneath a sky full of inverted stars.

Geraldine used to stand beside him, point down at the skyline, and laugh. “This is our empire.”

He yanked off his tie and tossed it aside, irritation burning through him until a faint noise came from the bedroom.

“Is Geraldine back already?

“That’s right. Where else can she go?” he thought.

With her temper, returning quietly never meant surrender—it meant she was plotting something.

Either she was here to make a scene, or she had a plan, and Amelia was her target.

His

eyes turned cold as he strode to the door and pushed it open.

Neon light spilled in through the windows, outlining a slim, graceful

silhouette.

But when she turned, his voice dropped to ice. “Who told you to come

here?”

Amelia flinched, a delicate nail charm trembling between her fingers.

“Jeff…” Her voice shook like that of a frightened doe. “I-I just wanted to look around. The guard said no one lived here anymore. Please don’t blame them…”

Jeffrey’s gaze fell on the nail piece in her hand.
