The Cheated Mafia Husband novel Chapter 9

Chapter 9

I had just lifted my phone to answer when an arm suddenly clamped around my neck from behind, dragging me backward into an alley.

Instinct took over. I dropped my weight, slammed my elbow hard into the attacker’s ribs, and stomped down on his foot with all my strength.

He grunted in pain, his grip loosening just enough for me to twist free.

A flash of cold steel glinted between the fingers of my left hand as the tiny blade hidden in my knuckles pressed precisely against his throat.

It was Jeffrey.

He stared at me, then gave a low laugh.

“Honey, you still got the same moves, huh? Even if you kill me, I’d die willingly.”

A wave of nausea and fury twisted my stomach. My voice came out cold and sharp. “Jeffrey, we’re divorced. Get out of my life. I never want to see you again.”

He leaned forward until the blade’s edge sliced his skin and a thin line of blood appeared.

“Come back with me, Geri. Let’s start over. The casino can’t run without its queen, and I can’t live without you.”

I lowered the knife, my answer like steel. “Keep dreaming. I’ll hate you

until my last breath.”

His eyes reddened. “Geri, I know I was wrong. Everything that happened was all my fault. Please, let’s try again.”

Footsteps sounded behind me. He hadn’t come alone.

I took a step back, slipping my right hand into my pocket until my fingers found a tiny button, and pressed it.

It was the emergency signal transmitter Mom had given me. Jeffrey shoved me into the car and sped toward the airport.

Then, his phone rang with a video call.

Amelia was tied to a chair, a baby clutched in her arms.

Levi held a knife to her throat. “Let her go, Jeffrey! Or you’ll never see your wife and child again!”

Jeffrey didn’t even flinch. He let out a short, mirthless laugh.

“Do whatever you want. Those two together aren’t worth a single

strand of Geri’s hair.”

On the screen, Amelia’s eyes widened in horror, all hope draining from her face.

Jeffrey ended the call and turned back to me, his gaze dark and feverish. “Now no one can come between us.”

He was completely insane.

Just as the car pulled up at the airport entrance, several vehicles

The car door swung open, and my mother burst out with a group of people right behind her.

“Jeffrey! Let go of my daughter!”

Gunfire erupted almost instantly! No one knew who fired first, and in the next second, chaos exploded all around.

Jeffrey lunged in front of me, shielding me from the bullets.

A muffled grunt escaped him as a red stain spread across his shoulder.

But he didn’t stop. Gripping my wrist, he tried to pull me toward the

terminal.

“Geri, don’t be afraid. I’ll take you home!”

I tore myself free with all the strength I had left.

“Jeffrey, there’s no home left for us. Not anymore!” His face went white, yet he still reached out to me, desperate. “Geri, come back. We can make it right again, just like before.”

I met his eyes steadily.

“If I had come back out of spite and gone after Amelia, would you have killed Mom in front of me before finishing me off too?”

His pupils contracted. His lips parted as if to protest. “I would never

do that!”

As always, his hypocrisy never changed. He lied to me the same way

he lied to Amelia.
