The Day I Walked Away My Empire Began novel Chapter 278

Steven slid behind the wheel and slammed down on the gas. The engine roared so loud it sounded like it might break free from the car itself.

Lucie was thrown hard against the door, pain shooting through her shoulder. “Stop! What are you doing?” she yelled, voice shaky.

Steven’s jaw was tight, eyes fixed on the winding mountain road ahead. He didn’t say a word, just pushed the car faster, tires shrieking as they drifted around one sharp bend after another.

Lucie gripped the handle so hard her knuckles turned white. “Steven, stop the car! If you want to kill yourself, fine, but don’t drag me into it!” Her voice broke, panic rising with every twist and turn.

He didn’t even look at her. The car just kept climbing, the night outside pitch black, the road getting narrower, steeper, more dangerous with every mile. Lucie’s heart hammered in her chest. She was too terrified to speak again, afraid that even a single word might send them flying off the cliff.

Half an hour later, they finally reached the top. Steven slammed on the brakes and killed the headlights. Suddenly, everything was swallowed by darkness. The only sound was his heavy breathing.

Lucie froze, barely daring to breathe. After a moment, she reached for the door handle, trying to slip out quietly, but it was locked.

Before she could react, Steven’s hand grabbed her, pulling her over into the driver’s seat.

“Steven, don’t—let go of me—” Her protest died in her throat as he silenced her with a kiss, rough and possessive.

Steven was terrifying, but not because he hit or threatened. He was the kind of man who could tear down your defenses without ever raising a hand. He knew exactly how to get under your skin and make you forget every reason you had to resist. He was dangerously charming, impossibly magnetic, and he always got what he wanted. No matter how much you hated him, no matter how fiercely you tried to hold out, once he set his mind on you, there was no escaping him. He had a way of making your mind spin, your body betray you, until you were completely at his mercy.

An hour later, Lucie lay slumped in the seat, gasping for air. “Steven, you bastard…” It was the last thing she managed before everything faded to black.

But Steven wasn’t done. He leaned closer, his breath hot against her ear. “Lucie, is making me crazy all you ever want?”
