1 froze, staring at Alexander

He stared deeply at me, Maybe this is sudden, maybe it lacks sincerity, but this staternent is

Permanent.

He took my hand, lowered his head, and slowly placed a cold, light kiss on the back of my hand.

Evelyn, many me.

Marry me

Today, if you tell me, we can go get the marriage license tomorrow

For a moment, Alexander’s voice and Lucas’s voice both echoed in my ears.

I clenched my lips, startled as if waking from a dream. I pulled my hand back from Alexander’s,

and exclaimed, No!

Knock, knock, knock-

The sound of loud knocking reverberated at the door.

I slowly took two steps back, putting distance between myself from Alexander[, between

us].

Under his deep gaze[T], I hurriedly turned around and walked toward the door. The knocking outside was heavyit wasn’t Lucas.

I took a deep breath, steadied myself, and opened the door, only to be shocked.

Mom?

My mother stood there, crying, Evelyn, I finally found you! How have you been all these years? Why didn’t you tell me when you came back? I missed you that much.

I grew cold, my expression hardening. Did you miss me to death?

My mother sobbed, What are you saying? What mother doesn’t love her child? I came to

apologize for what happened. Don’t blame me. If I hadn’t pushed you back then, you wouldn’t

have met Mr. Whitmore, would you?

After a lengthy monologue, she finally got to the point.

I sneered. Stop pretending. We’ve been estranged for six years. If you want money, go find your other daughter. I won’t give you a single cent.

My mother’s face changed, no longer pretending. Evelyn, I raised you for ten years. Now, your sister is getting married, and you must buy her a house! Or I’ll sue you!

I nodded. Sure, go ahead and tell the judge how you treated me all these years. I’ll support you in the lawsuit. I’d rather give money to a lawyer than give you anything!

You!My mother raised her hand and was about to strike me.

I was about to block her when a hand grabbed her wrist faster than mine.

Alexander coldly looked at my mother. Leave.

My mother flinched but quickly regained her composure. You’re Mr. Whitmore, right? Let me tell you, Evelyn’s not clean! She’s cheap! She was a mistress for three years in the UK! She’s already a damaged goods, probably caught some disease from her sugar daddies. She’s been used by so many men!

My mother screamed in pain as Alexander tightened his grip, as if he intended to crush her wrist. He looked at her with cold, murderous eyes.

Say it again!

My mother, too frightened to speak, looked at him in fear.

I took a deep breath and reached out to tug on Alexander’s sleeve. “Let her go.

I had heard these words countless times. They no longer hurt me.

Alexander’s chest heaved with anger. His jaw was clenched tightly, his eyes softening only when

he turned to face me. He was filled with both anger and sorrow, realizing for the first time that,

unseen by him, I had endured such accusations.

I said, Let her go.

Alexander closed his eyes, releasing her wrist.

My mother, as if granted a second life, hurried to the elevator. As the doors opened, she turned

and yelled at me.

Don’t think that just because you were with Mr. Whitmore for three years, you’re different.

I tightened my lips, taking a deep breath, and was about to step forward when I saw the elevator doors open. Inside, Lucas’s familiar figure appeared. I froze, and then heard my mother, in front of Lucas, shout.

Alexander used you for three years and then discarded you. You’re just a cheap woman he’s been

with countless times!
