It had been a month since Alexander left, and he hadn’t come looking for me or even called.
Everything was unnervingly calm.
But, someone like Alexander would never do something as petty as trying to steal a wedding. If he truly wanted to, he would have done it in the past month. Why wait until the wedding day?
And besides…
I said, “We’ve already gotten our marriage certificate. There’s no point in him trying to steal the wedding now.”
Lily made an “oh” sound, then seemed eager to say something.
Just then, the door opened, and Lucas walked in.
Lily immediately fell silent, gave me a teasing look, and laughed as she walked out.
The makeup room was now left with just Lucas and me.
Lucas walked over to my side slowly, his voice gentle. “You look beautiful today.”
I smiled. “I haven’t put on my necklace yet.”
“I’ll put it on for you.” Lucas took the necklace, and I turned to face him.
Lucas carefully put the necklace on me, and the next moment, he pressed a kiss to the back of my
neck.
“That night, I took everything he gave you and returned it. Would you be angry?”
That night?
I froze for a moment, remembering the night a month ago when Lucas locked himself in my bedroom that night. So, he had been jealous.
I asked, “How did you know which things were mine and which ones he gave me?”
“All the things he gave you, you hid at the very bottom.” Lucas wrapped his arms around me from behind, scoffing lightly. “You really treasure them.”

“Hmmm? You call that ‘treasure‘? Should I put the things you gave me at the bottom from now on?” I couldn’t help but laugh.
Lucas rested his head on my shoulder, thought for a moment, then said, “No, I like seeing you wear them.”

I said, “So, you have no reason to be jealous.”
Lucas muttered, “You’re criticizing me for him? You really like him, don’t you.‘
I said, “I shouldn’t have said I liked him that day. Do you know what ‘liked‘ means? It’s the past tense. You’re the present continuous tense. Get it right, I’m marrying you now, Mr. Harris.”
Lucas smiled. “Really?”
His voice lowered, and the words flirted into my ear.
My back tingled, and just as I was about to say yes, I looked down and froze.
Outside the floor–to–ceiling windows, a Rolls–Royce was parked in the square below. A tall figure leaned against the car, cigarette smoke swirling around him as if he sensed something.
Alexander looked up. From three floors away, his gaze cut through the air and the smoke, landing
directly on my face.
In my astonishment, Alexander raised his hand, waved the phone, then extended three fingers.
The five times we agreed on–three remain!
He still hadn’t decided to let me go!
My breath caught in my chest, and it felt as if a bucket of cold water had been thrown over me. All the happiness I felt earlier vanished without a trace.
Lucas sensed something was wrong and asked, “What’s wrong?”
He tried to follow my gaze, but I quickly turned away and pulled him away from the
floor–to–ceiling window.
“The wedding is about to start. Go ahead and get ready.”
Lucas didn’t suspect anything and turned to leave. But I grabbed his hand. “Wait.”

“What’s wrong?” he asked.
I took a deep breath and stood on my tiptoes to kiss his lips.
“Lucas, I love you. Only you.”
His gaze softened immediately. “I love you too.”
With those words, my heart settled a little.
I whispered, unsure if I was saying it to myself or to someone else, “We’ll always be together.”
No matter the past, only the future matters.
As long as we love each other, as long as we hold each other’s hands tightly, we’ll never fear
anything that comes our way.
The End.
