Chapter 3
The video cut off abruptly.
I thought of the bite mark on Alexander’s wrist from yesterday, my grip on the phone tightening.
Messages flooded in one after another.
[@EvelynHartwell, you should keep an eye on Alexander. First time I’ve seen someone bite him and still get kissed.]
[This isn’t just any man, this is a $300K a month plus and an unlimited black card. Can you really
live without these?]
[@EvelynHartwell, wanna hear a few tricks for the bedroom?]
They all seemed concerned, but in reality, everyone was just waiting for the drama to unfold.
Only Lily sent me a message, “Are you okay?”
I slowly typed back, “I’m fine.”
I had long accepted that as a kept woman, I was meant to live in a cage and never pry into my
sponsor’s life.
Besides, I was about to leave Alexander.
Thinking this, I stared at the video of Alexander’s tender expression, watching until my eyes
began to sting.
With graduation approaching, I was busy as well.
I picked up some documents from a professor, and on my way home, the rain started pouring
again.
I hurried home, holding my umbrella, and just as I reached the door, I heard the soft sound of a
piano playing inside.
Usually, Alexander was always busy and didn’t get home until late…
I was surprised and pushed the door open, only to find a woman sitting by the piano in the living
room.

The soft light fell on her face, and her profile looked exactly like the woman in the video.
I froze at the door.
The woman turned her head when she heard the noise, and the music stopped.
Only then did I get a clear look at her. Her face was delicate yet pale, like a lady from a 15th–century oil painting.
But this woman’s first words were, “So, you’re the little toy Alexander keeps in London?”
Her condescending tone made my hands clench tightly.
After a brief moment of silence, I politely greeted her, “Hello, I’m Evelyn Hartwell.”
The woman didn’t introduce herself, just casually said, “This piano is still tuned well. Alexander must often have someone come to adjust it?”
Her attitude clearly showed that she didn’t take me seriously at all.
I controlled my emotions and still responded politely, “It’s regularly maintained.”
This piano was the one thing in this house that Alexander cared deeply about. He even had someone come to tune it every month.
When I first moved in, I thought Alexander must love the piano, so I spent a year learning to play.
But when I finally picked a day to play for him, Alexander suddenly yanked me away from the piano, scolding me harshly.
“What right do you have to touch this piano?”
That was the first—and only–time he ever yelled at me.
Now, the woman who had the right to play this piano finally appeared before me.
I looked at her, waiting for her next words.
But the woman just smiled faintly, then ignored me and resumed playing the piano.
I felt like my chest was being suffocated by the sound of the piano, as if the music was blocking
the air.

Just then, the sound of the door opening echoed.
Alexander entered, and when he saw the woman, he froze.
After a long pause, he spoke coldly, “Had another fight with my brother, wife?”
Wife?
I froze, never expecting her to be in that kind of relationship.
The woman looked at Alexander, her tone slightly melancholic, “Alexander, do you have to talk to me like that?”
Alexander pursed his lips, his cold expression cracking just slightly. His jaw tightened, and he casually asked.
“When did you get here?”
The woman lowered her gaze and didn’t speak. Her face was slightly pale.
Alexander just stared at her, silent. After a long standoff, he finally softened his tone, as if
conceding.
“Haven’t eaten?”
The woman shook her head, “I’ve been waiting for
you.
I watched as Alexander removed his suit jacket and headed for the kitchen, “Same as always, Filet Mignon with Merlot. Is that okay?”
I froze again.
Filet Mignon with Merlot. That was the dinner Alexander often made for me.
It was rare for a sponsor to cook dinner for their lover. I thought it was a sign that Alexander
treated me differently.
But it turned out, it was just a continuation of another woman’s preferences.
My heart ached slightly. The next moment, I saw the woman turn to look at me, “What do you want to eat?”
At her words, Alexander turned to look at me for the first time since he entered.

I was about to say “Nothing,” but before I could speak, I heard Alexander coldly say, “You should
leave.”
I met his indifferent gaze, and with all my strength, I managed to force a smile, trying to act
nonchalant.
“Okay, I’ll be back later.”
But before I could finish, Alexander directly rejected me.
“No need. You’ll stay at a hotel for the next few days. I’ll call you when I need you to come back.”
