The Day Silence Spoke novel Chapter 114

At her words, Clifford turned to look at Latisha. She had managed to get to her feet and was staring at him, her face smudged with dirt.

She offered no explanation. From the moment he had walked past her to help Yesenia, he had made his choice. Anything she said would be pointless.

“Can you stand?” Clifford asked, his attention returning to Yesenia.

She shook her head. It was the second time she had twisted that ankle.

“I’ll take you to the hospital.”

“My things…” Yesenia whined, clinging to his neck and shooting a venomous look at Latisha, making it clear she wasn’t letting this go.

Clifford’s gaze shifted back to Latisha. “Pick them up.”

Latisha bit her lip, not moving.

Without another word, Clifford called another secretary down. “Watch her,” he commanded. “She doesn’t leave until everything is picked up.”

With that, he lifted Yesenia into his arms, carried her to his car, and drove off, leaving Latisha standing alone in the empty parking garage. He was gone as if he had never been there.

He used every cruel trick to keep her by his side, yet whenever he had to choose between her and Yesenia, he always chose Yesenia. This was his idea of taking care of her for life, of things being ‘like they were before.’

Clifford was nothing but a liar. They hadn't been ‘like they were before’ for a very long time.

The secretary looked at Latisha with a complicated expression. “Why would you pick a fight with Yesenia? You can cross anyone in this company except her. Didn’t Ziven tell you when you started? She’s the apple of Mr. Lambert’s eye.”

She froze. She could feel it—a warm stream flowing down her thigh and pooling in her shoe.

She took a few ragged breaths before slowly crouching to set the box down. Looking down, she lifted her pant leg. The back of her shoe was soaked in blood.

Her fingers dug into the cardboard as the pain in her abdomen intensified, making it difficult to even take a step. She was trembling all over. Finally, her strength gave out, and she collapsed onto the ground.

She pulled out her phone, but she didn’t know who to call. In the end, she quietly opened a ride-sharing app and requested a car.

Dragging her weakened body to the garage entrance, she waited for her ride. When it arrived, she took off her jacket and spread it on the seat before getting in and heading to the nearest hospital. Her abdomen had been hurting for days, and she had been surviving on painkillers, but this time, the pain was too much to bear.

When she finally reached the emergency room, the tension in her body released all at once. Her vision went black, and she fainted in the middle of the clinic.
