Ziven trailed after Clifford, casting a nervous glance at the man beside him, but his boss’s face was an unreadable mask. The only thing he could feel was the chill radiating from him.
Ziven wanted to say something, but Clifford had already turned and walked away, forcing him to hurry and catch up.
...
Meanwhile, with Santino’s guidance, Latisha had finally mastered the printer. She turned and signed to him, *Thank you, I’ve got it now.*
Santino nodded with a smile. “Good. I’ll get going, then.”
Latisha nodded back, watching him leave.
Plenty of people had witnessed their interaction. Rosalie, who had been on her way to chase Latisha for some documents, happened to see the whole exchange.
She frowned, a flicker of suspicion in her eyes.
While Santino was generally easygoing, he never wasted time on trivial matters like this, let alone personally tutoring a new hire.
Could there be something going on between them?
After a moment’s thought, Rosalie pulled out her phone and sent a message to Renata.
Renata was so obsessed with Santino that she couldn’t stand the thought of him charming other women at the office. She had a network of spies inside the company, and Rosalie was one of them.
The moment the message came through, Renata was so furious she nearly crushed her phone.
“That bitch! That home-wrecking slut!”
She cursed out loud, earning a strange look from her mother, Polly.
“What’s wrong?” Polly asked. “Why are you so angry?”
A woman’s intuition is a powerful thing, especially when it comes to matters of the heart.
She was certain that Santino’s feelings for Latisha were not as simple as they appeared. It had started long ago, from the very first time Santino visited the Lambert estate and stared at Latisha, completely lost in a daze. Renata had felt it then.
“Mom, I don’t want to see that mute ever again,” Renata murmured, her past grievances swirling in her mind until she seemed almost possessed by the thought.
Polly froze. “What did you say?”
Renata snapped back to reality, quickly smoothing the twisted expression on her face. “Nothing. I was just talking nonsense.”
But Polly stared at her, clearly unconvinced.
The mute’s very existence was an eyesore. Even outside the Lambert home, her presence was a constant irritation. But with Clifford protecting her, they didn’t dare make a move, unsure of the true nature of his feelings for her.
“Renata, what are you so worried about? Are you hiding something from me?”
